The Titan sub was never checked to see if it was up to standard because of its "innovation," OceanGate said in 2019. The sub features a carbon fiber hull that had never been used on submersibles before, according to the "Unsung Science" podcast.
In the podcast episode, Pogue said the sub's build — which includes "MacGyvered" ceiling lights and an Xbox controller for navigating the vessel — as well as the safety waiver, gave him cause for concern.

For me personally, the idea that he could be responsible for multiple deaths through willful negligence is far more damning than the fact that he once spoke unfawningly of old white guys (per forum rules I’m allowed one contrite virtue signal per post), so I might lead with that next time. But I wasn’t trying to defend him against anything more than purchasing a type rating course when he was young.

Stockton seems to be the very epitome of privileged old white guy and I’ll add spoiled rotten. A man who won’t be told no, who can’t take criticism and one who has always gotten his way. He even weaponized DEI to make sure there were no impediments to the use of his submersible toy. A spoilt rich kid simply can’t have experienced deep sea engineers, safety experts and seasoned submariners telling him that his toy is a death trap, therefore no old white guys allowed!
The authoritarian left is all about regime and its reign of power being unquestioned and maintained at all costs, truth be damned. It’ll be interesting to see how this one is covered, and smoothed over since the chief perpetrator was of the evil oppressor class.

Am I going crazy? There are exactly three posts that precede yours. They are about nothing other than a news story that Rush had a type rating from UAL & speculation that he had purchased training time as a non-employee. (Nothing about race; nothing about criminal negligence.) Your response (post #4): “wow, how inspirational…” My assumption was that your post was germane to the rest of the thread. I suppose it was presumptuous of me to assume that your comments were related to the thread. In the future I will try to retain a mental catalogue of all your opinions and comment history as you seem to have done with me so that I can interpret everything you say without the need for context.
