Default Narrowbody QOL Improvments

How will life on the narrowbody change with this TA? I personally don’t see a drastic improvement. I WANT TO believe it will get drastically better, so please help me to see. In other words, will QOL improvments be enough to lure people away from widebody FO?

Appreciate the information.

Thank you Gooselives. But can you tell me HOW it will improve. I honestly don’t see many changes aside from the 1:1 pay on 10+ hour duty days and the 5:15 min day pay.

Higher credit trips=more days off at a given line credit range. Just an example.

There are also ANF changes, extra day off on reserve, incentivized reserve, attempts at curbing reassignments, etc.

it’s a lot of small things that I think when added up will make the bad days significantly better, the good days slightly shorter, and won’t do much for the absolute worst days. The 1:1 add pay thing goes beyond extra pay, it’s a sign that they’re going to keep the duty days shorter. Or you’re going to credit more if they build them long which hopefully means less days of work in PBS. At the end of the day it’s NB flying, there’s only so much you can do. You’re never going to one and done ORD-DSM and then sit for 30 hours and credit 25 like you would flying ORD-NRT.

I asked a FACT team member this exact question last week. I am a 70% NBCA and am worn out after endless months of 89:55 PBS awards, no drops, no trades down. All bid groups limiting credit award fail. There's no way to say on a fatigue FSAP 'Ive been working to 117 maximum for 12 straight months' and have it ruled operational.

FACT team member had nothing helpful to say. I honestly can't believe we didn't ask for an additional day off override, a pilot's discretion unpaid drop, sick accrual actually tied to how much you work, anything.

And before you ask, 10hr duty pay is nice but I DON'T WANT THE PAY. I want to see my kid. This shouldn't be an either/or as a line holder Captain at a legacy. I'm willing to give it another year to let the contract shake out, but after that it's off to 787 2.5 day trip/20hr credit/ 19 days off land.

I feel like its going to be a wait and see situation. Many of the changes are to make it expensive for the company to do curtain things... ex. Long duty, long sit, etc. The problem is we don't know whether that will cause them to make more efficient trips or to just throw money at us. The 5:15 min day, for example, will have an effect but by how much... who knows. It would be nice to know for sure how all this will shake out but with any contract, I think its pretty hard to know for sure how either side will use it.

I bet you already know the "Improvements" the negotiating committee was going for and their intent. Anything else is just a guess until its implimented.

90 hr month= 5,400 minutes
5:15 day = 315 minutes
5,400/315 = 17 days of work

30 day bid month - 17 work days= 13 off

I agree 5:15 is an improvement but min 6 hr would have made a much bigger impact. That equals two more days off per month under the same formula.

Sounds like you’ll be getting that extra day off in a 31-day bid period, then.

A yes vote says this is okay and will continue to be so.
