I just checked actual staffing in June and September from the staffing report. As of June we have 266 SFO 737 CA. In September we will have 275. Most of the other bases have the same thing going on. A constant growing influx of MORE NBCA. This is because we are still flowing in NBCA from previous bids. Also remember we have a ton of New Hire CA that are at TK that have finished their first year and they are still flowing into the left seat adding to the number throughout the summer.
The MIN isn't "STAFFING". Its been explained numerous times. If you're ONLY looking at the MIN numbers on consecutive vacancy bids its not a real number.

Not true. Nobody gets displaced because of the MIN. Its just to keep backfills from coming in for summer training. There are still NB Captains at TK and awaiting TK class dates from previous bids. With more NB planes being delivered each week we need more Captains and FOs, which is why we are still hiring and putting them in the NB fleets.

There's a thread on here with rumor mill of 4x classes at 50+ a class starting in the fall. If TK wants to continue to pair a NBCA upgrade with a new-hire sim parter for training you could infer that there will be an similar amount of NBCA upgrades made available. A vacancy of even 100 NBCA openings across the system seems rediculous, but they would need one in August if they want butts-in-seats for October training. They would need another similar vacancy a month later as well.

Yea that’s where my November vacancy idea came from, I doubt any sooner unless there’s unexpected deliveries. I do appreciate crew resources being so transparent to the degree that they can be.

Ive been through full courses 5 times at United in 17 years. 4, including new hire, were FO paired with FO. 1 was partially Captain/FO and partially Captain/seat fills due to last minute FO illness.

This has been explained on NUMEROUS town halls by crew resources. The MIN/MAX is how they control training. Nothing else. Its not long term staffing. If they don't want to create narrowbody or other training cycles in the summer, they don't allow backfills, then in a few months they will post a bunch of bids to fill fall training slots. The fact that they didn't backfill is a result of limiting training and nothing else.
This bid was mostly just to fill 787 CA slots, as was mentioned in a previous Crew Resources Update. Obviously this could have created a lot of Captain upgrades in 756 737 and Airbus so they just artificially lower the min so there are no backfills.
If you look at the MIN vs total current staffing we appear to be overstaffed by 200 Captains. We are not.
As has been famously said in the past "I can explain it to you but I can't understand it for you"

Awards are out. -39 NB (including 756) captains. Maybe we aren't overstaffed by 200 captains, but according to this we are overstaffed by at least 39 NB captains.
I can't explain it to you, but I have the numbers for you.....

You keep talking about the min/max....

But my understanding of his explanation is that actual staffing is a summation of many people finishing training, leaving for other fleets, coming off sick leave etc and that at the level of a SINGLE bid ... they can pull down the min but not actually see a reduction in head count because they are backfilling with people who bid in two months ago and can replace the lost crewmembers in a subsequent bid before the number of pilots bidding shrinks month to month
Now if they do it multiple bids in a row .... yes the category shrinks.
