A Whitetail is a airframe already been built for a customer but for some reason didn't get accepted or a something fell through to cause the airframe to not be placed with a customer. So it then sits in the manufacturer possession until they find a new customer for it. While it sits, it's unusually painted all-white.... Hence the term whitetail. United and Alaska picked up a ton of Max whitetails that were rejected by Chinese air carriers after the MCAS groundings for cents on the dollar back in 2022 is the most recently example....

Spirit's Airbus deferrals will not be whitetails as they haven't started the production process yet therefore wouldn't be considered a whitetail.

I’ll say it again. Asking what happened in the past or “what’s the junior…” is a fools errand. It’s increasingly obvious that what came before has zero bearing on what will happen in the future.

the junior such and such may have gotten in on a prior vacancy, but going forward, it may be a bunch of senior people bidding in. Or maybe there’s no opening at all. Who knows?!?!

true but I think we are all aware of this. Maybe not a military guy, but even they should know that if they have done any research. I think people are just trying to get a general idea. Even if a fools errand.

While I get the notion of fools errand I still think it’s relevant because you can now see for instance that CLE FO has gotten all the people from current seniority list that wanted to go there minus those waiting for a certain % seniority. So if it’s gone to new hire recently, any new spots would likely go to those again minus some outliers

Another good sized vacancy bid just opened. 42 787 CA slots. Should create some more movement.
