Scott Kirby sure likes to gamble with everyone's career the way he runs that place.

In the early 2000s Leo Mullin had a vision for Delta to "fly from anywhere to everywhere". Bankruptch soon followed. Now Delta is the most profitable airline and mostly stays on the beaten path. Seems to make sense.

Loved the social media influencer campaign leading up to this "big" announcement. I'm sure Greenland and Mongolia and some cities in Spain and Portugal that probably only Hemmingway have ever been to will excite everyone and will be major revenue generators.
at the risk of being a kool aide drinker, he has been right about a lot. He’s a smart guy that seems to like to take calculated risks. I’ll take that over SW that won’t even fly into Canada.

Greenland has a big ecotourism business, and the only way to get there is via Europe. Sending a 737 there 3 days a week is not going to bankrupt an airline.

Spain and Portugal are huge tourism destinations from the US, so that's a no brainer.

Delta also just announced service to Sicily as well, so I guess if it bankrupts United, Delta will soon follow suit.

I don't know much about Mongolia, but I heard their BBQ is good.

Mongolia might be a good alternative to people not wanting to traveling to China? Also LA and SFO gave a somewhat large Mongolian presence. I’m just spitballing here I have no real answer.

Kirby and the network team he brought from AA are by far the best management/network team United Airlines has had in the last thirty years plus by a wide margin. Prior to him arriving United was contemplating dehubbing IAD, DEN and/or LAX. He has grown the network, its hubs and profitability dramatically while paying down debt and increasing unencumbered assets. The amount and variety of the flying available to United pilots is amazing and we have a pretty nice contract.

Nothing against Mongolia, but it is a poor country and really cannot replicate China in any way. It's cool United is trying all of this, but I think point to point in Asia is probably going to be tough.

I'll pass. It's only a matter of time before that house of cards collapes and United is the king of hiring forever until the day they furlough.

Besides I already barely work at a too big to fail airline that's paying down debt without the attention grabbing splashy headlines your influencer CEO craves.

“skate where the puck is going,” said Patrick Quayle United's VP of Global Network.

Well this is kind of the same strategy they always do for the summer travel season. All these Newark places have seasonal written all over them. To use a Basketball analogy rather than Hockey ....will they will be a One and Done just like all the other random Seasonal places we have flown to post pandemic.

The real Power Play goal here is Senegal....as I can see this as not really Tourism or Business but that untapped often forgotten market of "Visiting friends, and relatives"

Mongolia, eeeeeh will be make a great story for those who actually go, but it ll probably last as long as a bad reality show........a season.

Cool. Have fun in Outer Mongolia.

Btw market cap means nothing unless you're an investor or CFO. But you already know that.
