I’ll do it if I feel the announcement will help the FAs. As in, something weird is going on, and having it come from the “authority figure” will keep the passengers more calm and understanding so the FAs aren’t dealing with angry folks.

But normal boarding? Nah

If that were true every pilot would shut off his phone walking down the jetway.

Don’t be cringey, read the room, and don’t get nerdy. Simple. PAs from the flight deck take about 15ish seconds? Maybe? Just do the same thing, but in front of the folks
Nope. You sound like one of those galley pa guys. It’s not necessary. Don’t be an attention ho.
Customer satisfaction is getting them from point A to B safely and on time . It has nothing to do with making a galley pa and making yourself look foolish.

FOM says, in the gate area at the podium, on the aircraft face to face.

I thought that would be covered by unprofessional. But yes in many cases it definitely is exactly that.…..at another carrier there actually were pilots playing instruments to accompany their podium PA’s…….its on YouTube….a violinist and a flutist both same airline……

My biyatch is this: if you wanted all that attention and you want people to see you and how nice you look in your skin tight uniform and interact with the public………..maybe you should have been a flight attendant……much more visible workgroup

I don’t do it every flight, but if it helps the company and thus my paycheck, why not? Explain to me how doing your regular PA in front of people instead of the flight deck would make you look foolish?

If you knew me, you’d know that I hate attention. But I get paid well. If the people that pay me well want me to stand up in the galley and make a PA because it’s a net positive for everyone. Then I’m going to do that as long as it doesn’t interfere with safety of flight.

Be short and to the point, smile, and don’t be cringey

Hard to assess that when you're the one giving the PA lol

When is a good time to make a galley PA? When things are messed up. My personal take has been more than an hour/ hour and a half late off gate or a mystery maintenance delay.

Other than that, I’ll be making it from the flight deck. And keeping it fairly brief.

Are you not an “authority figure” when you say “this is the Captain speaking” from the flight deck?

No…it doesn’t. It says you CAN do it and it is well received. It DOES NOT say YOU WILL.
