I know a lot of you don't care at all about customer service (and it shows in how you manage situations on board the aircraft), but some do. If I can do something that makes other people feel better and doesn't cost anything (either safety-related or otherwise), why not?
Careful, they might call you cringey or say you’re making it about you

It doesn't, nobody and I mean nobody is picking an airline based on what some douchebag pilot does with the PA, if anything people will avoid that places that have the constant nagging on pa, like AA and their credit card nonsense and southwest and their "fun and folksy" pa's.

It’s far from my first priority but I do them at the gate when I have time. (Especially easy if you show up & are just sitting there waiting for a plane.) That said, I’ve got it down to a pretty tight 20 seconds & I don’t try to be clever or funny. The number of times I’ve had people come up to me (usually older folks) super excited about it has convinced me that while many don’t care, it’s VERY appreciated by others.

Definitely not for everyone so if it makes you uncomfortable (or you’re thinking about using it as a standup set) I’d say it’s not for you. Best advice I heard on the PPD topic was that not everyone does every customer service function well so find the stuff that fits you & do that when you can. If you see someone doing something that doesn’t fit who you are, just let it be their thing & not yours.

just don’t play Danger Zone over the PA. Your crew will appreciate it.

I've heard delta captains have to personally thank every business class passengers on international flights or something.

International cabin pa’s do pose a language barrier. Before I leave the cockpit I’ll translate my speech onto my phone. After I finish my cabin pa in English, I’ll play my speech from the phone in the native language over the pa. I’ve received positive feedback.
