people , people, people.

stop with the hilarious rumors--- now granted , im like the roubini of the furloughed world ( mr doom and gloom) but what everyone rumors from various chief pilots' friends' girlfriends' cousins' baby's momma--
it aint gonna happen that quick number one and number two--- i highly doubt UAL can train 60 a month quickly. UAL was begging pilots to take LOA's as recently as this month! UAL is overstaffed!

400 to get 40? i highly doubt that , more like 80-100 and thats only b/c of current military committments, other jobs, and having a better job and waiting on the sidelines--- the people who snatch it up are the ones who played the unemployment game , enjoyed their time off and the cabin fever is getting to them.

this entire process is embarassing

I clearly remember when UAL trained 100 a month in the late 90's and those were all new hires (long course) not recalls with many more fleets to train into. Some of the recalls would be short courses, my guess is you could easily do 100 month of recalls. The thing to watch is if they start bringing PI's back to TK in the next few months. That is step 1.

Your correct UAL is overstaffed in Dec and Jan.

But are you also stating UAL is overstaffed for May, June, July, Aug 2011 ? If so, let me borrow that crystal ball so I can figure out where to put my PDAP money . Please

100 month i guess -- i dont know the criteria for 'short courses'--- i agree who knows?

the first point is when the PI's start going to tk---- then the real rumors will fly!

pdap--- hmmmm i dunno-- just continue to day trade--- for the holidays-- i'd do UPS, amazon and long term apple---- i mean thats alot of ipads that ual and alaska ( confirmed - i believe) will be buying and thats just the start--- also GM-- but maybe wait for a pull back--- and i dont even charge
spring-- i'd go with UAL in a heartbeat-- itll hit 40 if nothing affects it worldwide by may '11--- but we wont even be near a jcba either-- lots of savings

Look at COH......Coach.........market cap of over $17 BILLION and all they make is leather shoes/purses/wallets, etc. No debt and great management. My original 43 shares which were given to me by Sara Lee as a spinoff in 2000were worth $86..........and after several splits/dividends those original 43 shares are worth approximately.........$19,400........yep, you're reading that right..........$86 to $19,400. Check it out............;) And my CAL ESPP stock has done well too!

30west,

You have some good points about the short requal classes, and the staffing numbers for the approaching summer months. A crystal ball would be very popular, but trying to connect the dots will have to do.

It would not surprise me at all, if UAL recalls and UAL to CAL hiring were originally intended to be timed with the JCBA. The company would have a better picture on staffing needs, and also gain the free boost from timing the impact of good news.

Excepting any major negative economic events, I am all but sure pilots will be added for upcoming UAL summer flying. Scope will determine if these positions will be flown for UAL, or by UAL. Too bad there is even a difference.

Thanks again to all for the interesting input. Please continue to post any relative information, even if it falls well short of being official. If someone really wants to avoid any CPO rumors or questionable information on the subject, they would not be reading this thread to start with. ;)

Thanks SP, made some calls yesterday the official line is no recalls except to the already announced CAL recall side. But, then it was brought up there is a meeting in early Jan to access staffing needs for summer flying and that's when it will be official one way or the other. My contact pointed out they are not high enough up to know before that meeting.

Also, I know that when NC analyzed UAL work rules at CAL there was a range of 300-500 pilots needed with UA current BK rules let alone any work rule improvements. My contact says reserves day off going up to 13 minimum in new contract that has manpower issues right there.

Also, training wise guys that left off airbus get a short requal course if gone less than 3 years so many guys training would be back and on line in under a month.

I have some contacts in the ORD HQ Chief Pilots office and IAD Flight Office, the word I am hearing is recalls to the CAL side as early as JAN-MAR time frame. Also UAL needs pilots and plans to announce recalls in APRIL 2011.

I am at the top of the recall list, so I am waiting it all out, I would prefer to join the CAL side since I live in Houston.

Ask what your DOH was at UAL and how long you have been on voluntary furlough?
