New UAL "Flight Plan"?
#31
If you are junior you can't say you haven't seen other jobs out there you could have tried for. Delta hired recently, Airtran was hiring recently and a few other places would have allowed you to demonstrate your talents.
That is if you are willing to do something about your situation. If UAL isn't for you then don't be miserable. Get a divorce and move on. Some marriages just don't work and this one may not be for you.

The reality is that getting another opportunity at another carrier as a UAL furlough isn't as easy as you make it sound.

Kinda funny huh? It's almost as if they are waiting for complete integration before recalling our 1400+ so as to staple them. They could do it sooner, ie summer flying, but they won't until late 2011, as the rumor states. How many times are we going to accept being kicked like dogs around the table content to only lick up the crumbs that fall from on high? How long will the juniors here accept getting screwed without hesitation to benefit those senior....does the sacrifice of the LCC pilots for the A plan sound familiar? Who voted for that milking the pilots 11.8% pay reduction after we lost the A plan? We lack leadership and we are mere sheep marching in step towards the cliff and nobody wants to say that the emperor has no clothes! Well guess what, the emporer is naked and we all are as well....freezing our butts off as the senior among us are wearing our coats on top of theirs, living in our homes, raping our spouses, enslaving our children, consuming our bank accounts and staying until they are 65. When will we more junior ones say enough is enough? I know seniors are due more as a result of seniority but when items come up to improve our lives even more, the seniors either crap on it and it dies or they want the lions share of the improvement for themselves. Why does the MEC cater to them so exclusively? Isn't it one man/woman, one vote? Take a cue from the Dems who have learned to cater to the lower class be spreading the benefits. They, at least know, that 1000 bucks spent on 100 constituents buys them 100 votes whereas 1000 to one fat cat MAY buy them 1 vote. No brainer but the MEC continues to cater to the seniors and ignore the juniors....and the forloughees. Do you seriously think for one moment that the MEC would bend over backwards to add the furloughees to the integrated list if it meant $1 less for the 400/777 captains? Not On Your Life!
Enjoy the ride on the UAL Titanic, the band is playing, we are all dressed for a party but funny, the deck is listing and there's an icy ocean looming. Hope you can swim between the bergs.

Bottom line, this is mgmt's problem. Ideally THEY have the power to recall on both sides at the same time (its called balancing the flying instead of take it out in the hides of the 1437). Dealing with the inefficiencies of any other approach, with a new JCBA or not is inconsequential.

As I recall, the UAL side has protection at 90% of block hours and that will fall to 0% on January 1, 2012. As I understand it, management could reduce UAL flying/airframes while as the same time increasing the CAL side.
By the way, while this certainly favors the CAL pilots, I don't believe that anyone on the CAL side is hoping for such a scenario to play out.

Not sure this is accurate. CAL is currently taking aircraft delivers and according to our contract as well as the JCBA, the additional block hours from those deliveries need to go to the CAL pilots until seniority is integrated.

One thing that I have heard straight from JP's mouth via TownHall/call-in's......As long as there are seperate/respective CBA's, CAL's current SCOPE assures all deliveries, from orders placed by "CAL"prior to M.A.D., are exclusive/delievered to CAL pilots. As far as the other claims that were stated above, not for certain, so no comment.
On the flip-side, we have all seen first hand what "Jeff & The Gang" have done by-way of treading on the existing/current CAL SCOPE/CBA thus far......foreshadowing one would think??
Stay tuned.

My whole point is that even while separated, there is no reason the company can't offer a furloughed UAL pilot the option to come back to EITHER side, if they need pilots overall. Perhaps, with the delay of the 787, we are not at the point of needing ANY recalls overall. So be it. However, anything short of comprehensive solution is just more whip-sawing and harmful to all of us in the end. While a JCBA/SLI is the ultimately goal, there is potentially a lot time left on the clock.

Yeah, there are so many great jobs out there, perhaps I ought to split. On second thought, with a kid in college, with no retirement and in my 50s I'd rather just hang around and annoy all the Marvins that I fly with. The guys dying to release the parking brake to get the on time, flip on channel 9, carry write ups to the hub, wait another 20 mins for hotel van, etc. etc etc.
When furloughed in 03, it took me FOREVER to get a lousy job. Flying a 57 internationally I was paid $34,000/year. Yessir, lets build some more multi time! And with UAL on your resume, that's about all you're going to get. I love to see the look on Marvins face when I tell them what the rest of the industry is willing to pay.
Put UAL on your resume and circulate....good luck.

Some of the things I have been told to my face in interviews would make you cringe. I understand the above statement and it's true. $34k! If I could get that with benefits, I'd take it right now... but alas, I can't go overseas and leave my family as they have sacrificed enough for my career as it is.
All of us furloughed twice are just looking for some respect that we have earned. We are all tired of being kicked below the belt.
