OK you CAL guys do your homework and find out, is CAL offering pilots jobs who are not UAL furloughees? If this is true the there is a contract violation in progress.

First problem; "A flight attendant told me...". Everything following that statement is, almost without exception, entirely void of credibility and rarely based in anything approaching reality. Really.

Thanks to all of you for the input.

Here is what I found over the years, management will do devious things and yes FAs are often a bit unreliable in their rumors. But, often hidden there are some facts.

It will be interesting to see how this management will play out the "shortage" coming this fall because of the "new" 737s while they downsize the old fleets (UAL & CAL).

Personally I'm betting they will attempt another RJ and start hiring replacement pilots.

FWIW, taken from another forum:

Heard at the sim building . . . " they will start training UAL pilots [Oct/Nov], the rate will be 30 to 35 a month for 180 to 200 pilots more will follow to cover retirements. We have approximately 30 737 simulator instructors and they are conducting interviews to hire more [instructors] this week. Clearly they are spooling up for a training cycle. . . The instructors and staff are clearly excited about the prospect of training UA pilots."

If true, great news for those who need work.

I've been waiting for a light at the end of this furlough tunnel, but after so many false starts, I'll wait before getting my hopes up.

Jay Pierce said it in the Town Hall meeting yesterday there are vacancies and another member confirmed 175-200 pilots needed. 19 737's / 6 787 (maybe) next year. Fingers crossed!

Good idea. But it's gotta end sometime and why not now.

Yes, there is evidence the school house is ramping up to do 35-ish a month for a total of 200-ish. These should all be furloughed UAL pilots.

I remember in Jan when I came back from furlough and was in training building for 2 months. Everyday there was a new rumor about new-hires, either UAL people or off the street. I remember when all these new young faces all dressed up started walking around the building one day. Everyone said those people were off the street interviewing. Then someone said their buddy had just been called for an interview. The next couple of days were quiet, why, because everyone felt stupid because those people were interns just starting. Its about time for the next set of interns to start for the second half of the year.
