100-200 UAL furloughees to CAL

OK here it goes, A UAL F/A cornered me yesterday and asked if I knew that CAL was hiring pilots. I said no they couldn't as far as I knew. She responded her last Captain (UAL) that day had told her CAL had just offered his son a pilot position and was hired. OK you CAL guys do your homework and find out, is CAL offering pilots jobs who are not UAL furloughees? If this is true the there is a contract violation in progress.

And I did ask if she meant CAL was hiring FAs and not pilots. No she restated the Captain's son was hired as a pilot.

Go to work CAL guys and gals, query your CPs and let us know.

Perhaps the fella "hired" was selected for an instructor position of some sort.

Either the Captain's son is a UA furloughee, was hired into the pool and had a class date that was cancelled in 2008 and is still in that pool now to be tapped after all UA furloughees are "hired", or the FA in question was wrong.

There is a system bid that is allegedly coming out and there are some rumblings it might have vacancies (hiring) on it. I'll believe it when it is awarded and staffed. As per the TPA any hiring would be UAL furloughees in seniority order.

One of the ACP's said the bid would have no vacancies. CAL doesn't want to hire UAL pilots due to training costs of someone who will return to UAL side later. Double training.? CAL doesn't want to hire off the street because that ignores the UAL furloughed guys. Answer: VJM and picking up open time. CAL has plenty of pilots that will save the airline.

After the merger we may see furloughs. If we give up scope, we will see furloughs. If you are furliughed, you can always apply as a new hire for a United Express carrier flying a 90 seat RJ for $25K/year.

Town Hall meeting today with Jay Pierce said, "He saw the system bid with vacancies". Around 175-200...so the rumor has it. I'll believe it when I see it awarded and staffed

Was that before or after today's news that Boeing is looking at another 787 delay? Can't catch a break.

Could it be "Continental Express"?

... or Colgan, etc. One thing I'd bet a bunch of cash on is it's not CAL.

Not hired at CAL as a pilot according to the latest staffing report. I would suggest that it is BS.
