Question for the CAL EWR pilots;

Looking at the CAL EWR-HNL direct, and noticed roughly the same number of open seats for several days. Is this just coincidence, or do weight restrictions occur on that flight?

My wife and daughter are planning a short trip this week to visit family there, and enjoy some time on the beach.

Thanks in advance, and for any other help.

There are 7 held seats on that flight for crew breaks. 3 for the pilots and 4 for the flight attendants. If there is a seat in Business then the pilots get it for a rest seat and that opens up 3 seats in coach (rare). Good luck, have back ups if you have a schedule to meet.

3 pilot rest seats? Are you guys all on break at the same time, or is there a crew deadheading to fly back to EWR? Is there any provision in the CAL contract that requires business or better for DH for flights longer than XX?

Three coach seats for one pilot to lay down in uniform in front of passengers. I bid off the plane! I have family in Hawaii too and almost always have to go through LA to get there.

???? Wow!! That's considered "rest" huh? Unbelievable. I'm surprised there aren't fatigue FSAPs every flight! Is that on the 777 or the 767-400?

Hopefully we get you guys a real rest facility with the new contract.

That is 757/767 specific.

Crew rest on the 737 is a first class seat.

The 777 has rest bunks.

No, there is not. The only sort-of DH requirement is that middle seats assignments will be the lowest priority, and as part of the T&PA, we get an extra 50% pay for the DH if we are forced into a middle seat at check-in or by the gate agent. Otherwise we are supposed to get windows, aisles, emergency exit rows, bulkheads.

This is the same priority that the "new" United wants in our contract...Economy Plus NOT included.

It's definetly one of the most comical parts of our ludicrous 'but we will go BK if we do not sign NOW' contract '02. This is applicable on the 757/767 only since all 777 have the bunk. There have been fun incidents where sleeping FO's in coach have had passengers place empty beer cans on the tray table and take pictures. Dignity and respect! Work Hard, Fly Right!

The 737 rest seat for 8+hr turns is written into the FOM as 1B so that never changes. In an perhaps unrelated note the head negotiator for ALPA was at the time a 737 capt on paper. He was so talented that now days he is a 757 ACP in IAH. He also keeps busy testifying against ALPA in abirtation cases based on vague language that he helped 'craft'.

You don't need good crew rest at CAL. All you need is a big tube of KY.

Ahhhh. Got it. Man, that is really lousy. On the 767 we get a first class seat. It's not ideal, but it beats the heck out of 3 coach seats!!
