^ I have NEVER stated it would be done for International (Global) flights.
The scenario I see is what HSLD pointed out.
CALFO , you state this is "a non issue".
Our job (and the Union's too..) is too see if there are scenarios that hurt us.
A crew is scheduled to fly EWR-LAX, sit for 1:30 and then do LAX-PHX. Flight time 8:30. Sit in LA about 1:30 (there are things that also happen with regards to crew meals at the 1:30 mark).
If this gets delayed.. the crew is still legal for a while. But if not, due to some sort of weather issue.. say "SWAP" is in effect.. certain rules get thrown out!
The crew could get re-assigned.. (as I see) and that could effect their end time and also their "pay".
Not to mention, 9 hour un augmented is manpower negative.

I read your example above and I truly don't understand what the issue is? As for thing being different in swap. The 9 hours is far and it's not extendable. Swap doesn't change that. Can you please elaborate on the example. If there is something that I am missing I'd like to know.
Lets keep up the good discussions.

Since the company is slowly moving to replace brain bags with iPads, there was no long term value in asking for an agreement where a UAL pilot would be assigned to carry each CAL pilot's bag. A seniority roll over seemed like the next piece of low hanging fruit given UAL's propensity to eat their own young with or without ALPA's sanctioning...

Pay banding and LOA 25 are CAL MEC strategic goals, no doubt.
I am a NO voter and I will take my chances that the arbitrators will see right through this...SLI is and should remain separate from the JCBA negotiations, it is shameful that some have chosen to pollute the process. Happy Turkey day everyone!

OMG . . . more idiocy . . .
The new TA restricts planes based on weight not seats and even if it didn't why would any company fly a heavier plane with fewer seats. It would lose money from day one. You are uneducated, uninformed and should keep your mouth shut.

So they can put First Class and Economy Plus in the A/C. With that configuration the weight doesn't matter much ... does it?

There are a lot of imperfections as admitted by the MECs but I agree...there is nothing as important as stopping the CAL MEC/UCH vs UAL MEC grow/shrink reality. This is not a "what if" scenario, it is reality. I also don't subscribe to the folks saying that only pilots that vote no are entitled to voice displeasure with certain areas that are not good. If one evaluates the contract as the best current solution to stop the whipsaw and is in good standing I believe you're entitled to stay in the respectful constructive debate. I've read most of the gripes of the TA but I propose as a response to every single one: What is as important as ending the conniving whipsaw?
