FWIW, isn't Boeing essentially trying to do the same thing with the 737 MAX, an aircraft that UAL has ordered?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't it a crash of CAL 757 that lead to the change in 75 trim positions? What kind of a culture allows this type of mistake to be repeated over and over????????? If this is true somebody needs to call the NYTimes or WSJ or CNN or somebody. We need to bring this to an end as quickly as possible. It's bad for everyone.

You are taking an untrue statement (1 stall per month) and reinforcing it with a fictitious accident. Please stop painting YOUR airline in such a negative light on a public board.

Can you please post more info of a Continental 757 crash. Can't seem to find any reference to one.

Thanks
Motch

Nothing personal against your handicapable baby airplane there otto. Just thinking out loud. Thinking and coming up with a good solution is something our bean counters don't seem to be very capable of.
The reasons most airlines have more than one type is because there are different missions. All aircraft are "handicapable" in some respect. They can't do everything. So why the big deal about an airline putting an aircraft on the right route for it to make money. Is that not how this whole airline thing works? So the 737 can't do 10% of what the 757 can do. Well, it can't do 50% of what the 767 can do. Oh no, what do we do? The 75ish 757's and all the 747's are getting parked and guess what is on order? 737's and 787's. If the 737 can't do a particular route, guess which plane will? Ah....the 787?

Love the baby airplane comment. Gee, what fuselage does the 757 have? Oh, that's right; the 737 fuselage. I guess it's a baby since it only has 173 seats.

Guess what, your 757's are babies compared to the CAL 757-300's with 220 seats (more than a 787). Plus, my dad can beat up your dad.

Have not heard anything like you are stating, by any folks at the school house ( just had my PC) or check airman that I fly with. Have not read in any fleet updates, as this being a consistent problem. Would think, if you are correct, the line pilots would be the first to know. If you are a pilot at the new United, would caution you against making such safety statements and the implication on a public forum.

My baby comment has nothing to do with size. Rather the fact that you defend the 737 like it's your baby and you the doting parent. The super Guppies have some serious issues a surprisingly under capable product for a Boeing IMO. PERIOD end of story. This has nothing to do with you or your dad.

Try being a little sensitive Otto it makes life so much easier.

I find it ironic that some are screaming how screwed UAL is for deploying the 900ER to replace the 757 given that DAL is employing a very similiar strategy. Sorry folks, bean counters order them and we fly 'em.

Still waiting for that 757 crash info and any actual proof that CAL is stalling one 737/month.

There have only ever been 2 757 crashes, and none have been CO. Cali-American 757, and the stall/spin due to blocked static ports after a wash--some airline down south somewhere.

The 757 has one of the best safety records in the history of aviation.

I'm not defending the 737. I don't like it. I've flown the other Boeings too. I really don't care, they are all the same. I can name just as many negative comments about the 757 that I don't miss. The negative comments from ignorant people are what I find offensive. The only reason people defend the 737 is in response to the attacks on it. SWA is doing pretty well with the 737. American and Delta are buying them too. Why?
