When the regionals are canceling flights due to lack of crews, it hurts the Major they are serving. Soon, you will see UAL, AMR, and DAL stop hiring from their own regionals since grabbing pilots from other places not only keeps the schedule intact, but you can hurt the other guy by making HIS regional affiliate cancel flights.

AA will take their flows, they won't hire an SKW/RAH pilot flying American Eagle, but they'll take an SKW/RAH pilot flying United Express/Delta Connection.
Delta will take their flows, but they won't hire an SKW/RAH pilot flying Delta Connection. But they'll hire a SKW/RAH pilot flying American Eagle, USair Express, United Express......etc etc etc........
At one time, it was a plausible scenario. Now it's just simply mutually assured regional feed destruction with the uber regionals having FFD/CPA's with multiple legacy airlines.
There are times when those pilots could fly 2, and sometimes 3 of those paint jobs in a SINGLE day depending. So even though they could exclude/discriminate by domicile, that wouldn't even be a workable "fix".

Should be interesting to see what happens with the regionals--when the WSJ is writing articles about their woes you know there's a crisis afoot.
Thanks again, all (esp. MPA), for the updates: you're helping me keep my sanity.

Delta's getting backed up in training too as they have just about as many (if not more) new hires coming on board as UA. My friend was hired in February and was told to expect a June (or so) class date.
