"Based on revised training plans and forecasts from Manpower Planning, we currently expect a need for almost 1,300 new hire/leave return/furlough recall pilots through April 2016. This is being driven by age-65 retirements, as well as aircraft block hour increases on several of our fleet types. This revised and very robust training plan will deplete our new hire pool by the end of September, so we will resume new hire interviews next week and will continue interviews indefinitely. As always, positions remain available to recalled pilots who return from bypass status and pilots returning from leaves of absence before they are made available to new hires." -- SVP, FO (8/15/14)

Yeah, but the UAL ship has a better bilge pump, operated by the government. Every airline runs into an iceberg here and there, but my airline seems to be intentionally heading right for them.....

Didnt we make highest profit in the history of United Airlines last quarter? Certainly not saying we dont have work to do in a lot of areas, but i'd hardly say we are "taking on water".

Of course, UAL is doing great right now. I was simply referring to the hardship they have faced a decade ago. My current airline might as well be a sub with an open door

Fellas, it's a great place to work, except when you fly with Capt Optimist.

No. It was the highest profit in the 2nd quarter for United. United had some $1B+ profit quarters in the late 90s in the 3rd quarter.

We could exceed that this year.

No matter how much money we make there will be people that complain. United has survived while many carriers that were around as little as 10 years ago have ceased to exist.

We aren't going anywhere.

Thread drift...

Ok, record profits. Anyone care to hazard a guess as to how screwed up the profit sharing will be this time? Me, I'm looking forward to each and every quarterly success sharing check.

Anybody know about what percentage of interviewees they're actually hiring in the latest few rounds? Just curious...

Just flew a trip with a CA that does the interviews and asked him that question.

He said 80+% get hired.
