Being a lcal guy...this above mentioned SHOULD be new school...at cal I was very fortunate to get my wings from Larry K. himself...just seems to me that this mgt team doesn't give a sheeeeaught about this pilot group...no wonder dal,swa and soon to be the new amr are kicking our ass's no matter how good of a job the flight deck does. Maybe, just maybe not fighting us tooth and nail and not f-ing up the cba every chance they get, this ship might be righted...I know, I know,I'm gonna have to hit up the gold seal big time to get passed that next random....

1995. It wasn't going on when I was hired, but started shortly thereafter and exuded class. It wasn't the $%#&bag operation that we have now. We also had a Captain's school that invited the spouses to a dinner. OTOH, the company we work for now requires us to use our personal vacation days to attend an ALPA Safety award banquet for those receiving awards. We're failing fellas, and it isn't because we didn't save enough on crew meals...

Why does everyone keep going on about United "failing"? Are they not profitable or am I reading the wrong financials? Yes, I agree they are obviously not bringing in what DAL is currently and have fallen short of some projections, but I feel like people on here keep talking like UAL is about to go belly up. I guess I don't get how 300+ million in the green last quarter is failing.

The current mantra is outsource, outsource and more outsource. Bad route/aircraft selection. Screw IT, as it really doesn't matter anyway, and stick it to the employees. Does that sound like a successful business plan?

I know many may disagree here but I don't really see the need for lavish new-hire dinners or winging ceremonies in front of statues...it just seems to breed a mentality to think they are gods gift to aviation and they were hired because they are "Top Gun" of the skies. Just give me a nice paycheck, livable work rules and decent amount of days off and I'm happy.

Our new-hires are the Top Gun, Sky king, gods of aviation, they made it to the top of a 11,000 person pile. We should welcome them aboard with a little style.

It's not about ego stroking or making pilots feel superior or anything like that. It is about creating a culture that WE are a special organization to be a part of. It's about wearing the name on your uniform with pride because you represent not just yourself but a lot of great people on your team because feel it's a special place to be and that others should want to be on your team as well. It's not about things, it's about a mentality and a culture that others want to replicate. I'm not talking about bending over for "management" either, there are many ways to increase QOL without touching pay/compensation and I believe building a winning culture is one way to do that. A lot of this can be accomplished by us, the pilots, without any concessions to the management. It's a lot easier to be away from family when you are working with people that want to work with you.
Just my 2 cents after reading a lot of angry, frustrated, and unhappy posts over the last 6 months (some of them very understandable). Also, I like run-on sentences that go on forever with incorrect punctuation that replicates how I talk because I talk Kentucky,
