Agree. We generalize it as "IT" but I'm sure they're as capable and working as hard as we are, but, like us, the company has them understaffed and overworked. We see the typical result of cutting corners, poor oversight, and seatofthepantsputoutfires management.

Well ... how many times does one have to read that it was an IT issue on the vacation bid debacle. I just can't believe so many are coming to the defense of the IT Dept.

While I have nothing against any person(s) in the "IT" department as individuals, however this constant theme of failure, ranging from the most important revenue management algorithms to simply getting vacations out a month before they are due, reflects more than poorly on those who are Captaining this show.
The devil is in the details and these details are constantly screwed up so what does that say for all the standards held by the new United Airlines?
Sadly one can be penny wise but very pound foolish and these people are very foolish!

One example:
After decades of fighting to keep as the F/O bunkies on the International flights instead of IROs the New Management is now staffing Captains to be bunkies.
Never in the history of UAL (and probably CAL) have such poorly planned, executed, and egotistical robbers been at the helm of this combined airline.

IT isn't management. It's IT. They were probably given this vacation project 3 weeks ago with an "oh, by the way." Wait for the Golden Days Off bidding. They'll be told about it after the final vacation bid cycle. No one is responsible for the mess we're in except management. They could hire more IT folks, they could hire more training schedulers, they could hire more pilots. They don't and they won't. They want to project a Cadillac image when they're paying for a Chevy. The deregulation consolidation music has stopped and we've been paired with the crappiest management in the industry.
