I've used the product in the past, and though it was outstanding. It'll be interesting to see the data the company supplies.
Getting ready to start at UAL... Is this product (and any other bidding software) good on the ipad? Im just wondering if I'm going to need a laptop for anything United related. CBTs? Bidding? Anything?

CBTs and other training can be done on AN iPad but cannot be done on the UAL iPad due to their blocking of the apps/browsers required to do them. Bidding and everything else can be done on any iPad.

You'll find all employee focused IT products at UA less than ideal. The company iPad is locked down and only authorized for company approved apps. It could be a useful device, but instead, you'll want to carry a personal laptop.

The Crew Companion product for UA pilots is a result of UA losing a grievance in which the company was responsible to provide a trip trading system. I'm guessing that the UA IT dept. was unable to produce such a system although I don't know all the details. The award was just a few weeks ago so the software isn't available yet. Like so many things, it's coming, we're just not sure when.

Haven't had laptop for years, and don't miss it! You'll get your company iPad, but I highly recommend either a personal iPad or smart phone for crew companion and other general things. Not to be paranoid, but UAL knows every single thing you do and look at on your company iPad, so I only use it for company endeavors.

Welcome aboard!!

As has been said, it's "a forum" not "THE forum." It's not official in any way, shape or form. I'd recommend it for a variety of reasons, including the reason listed below, but recognize it for what it is.
And it's the only forum that is scrubbed for actual United pilots from the seniority list and no scabs allowed.
True, but it can still get pretty wacky. While it might be the best out there, I don't think it's much better than this one, which is remarkable considering this one has little vetting. You will get faster help on specific issues there, which is the most important thing.

Any forum like this one where anyone can join and real names are not required are certainly not official forums.

I would argue this forum has just as much (or more) beneficial info than your "official" forum. That's official enough for me.

The forum linked in the first post of this thread is NOT a for profit forum, and does not charge for a subscription, unlike some other forums out there. However, since it is hosted on a "free" 3rd party platform that makes $$$$ by serving ads a strong adblocker plugin is advised. The admins do not get any cut of the $$$ and are strictly volunteers.

As background it was started as a direct result of the plug being pulled on the "official" UAL ALPA forum a few years back due to some internal political gamesmanship, fear of liability, and various attempts at suppression. Virtually the entire membership of the official forum simply migrated to the new one in a matter of weeks as it was advertised prior to the old one being shut down.
