You have probably heard this already, but walking in to a LUAL base without an ALPA pin on your tie is like flipping off every pilot in the room.

It's a pretty big deal.

If you're based in EWR or IAH, it's not noticed as much.

It doesn't have much to do with ALPA, it's just a sign that you're part of a group that will stick together no matter what.

(I realize that there are some CAL scabs that wear the pin, but that's a pretty small number of losers).

UAL scabs are still forbidden to wear it.
Sooooo, which is it? Pretty small number of losers, or " you guys have a crap load of scabs...."...make up your minds. If YOU take it as a middle finger, then so be it...how do you take a bunch of scabs sporting your holy grail alpa pin?

Sometimes it's not easy, that is why wearing the pin shows unity against Jeff and his minions. The old guys without pins are pretty easy to figure out.

The younger guys without pins are also pretty easy to figure out. Just need to educate them a bit on what will happen next year without unity. Pretty safe to say that anyone with gray hair and no pin is a scab, even without looking it up in the list.

Well, ok, then again, maybe it is just that easy.

Wear the pin, enforce your contract. Insist on it!

On my second round at United Jan 2007-Sept2009 I never wore my ALPA pin. I was only asked about it once when a old wide body Capt waiting for the crew bus in LAX said"You have dropped something" I replied "What" He then mentioned the pin. I told him I didn't wear a pin and wouldn't until ALPA actually represented me and stopped throwing me under the bus. I was about to get furloughed the second time. I still have no plans to wear it for round 3.

Flew with a second round furloughee who said that when the pilot group voted to have an assessment to pay for continued access to company medical benefits that the assessment would have failed without the furloughees own votes. The union is not "them" it's "us" and when he saw "us" not support the most vulnerable of the group it was the end of his union support.

If you are a SWA guy WTH are you doing commenting here about a subject you know nothing about? If you are a UAL guy why are you over there acting butt hurt over the SWA PAX getting tossed for making a tweet?
I'll have to look and check out what you consider "indignation," but I don't remember that. Besides, who says I can't comment on ANY Company thread as an interested industry observer?

Again, you YoNited guys need to get a grip sometimes.

You guys are making a big deal out of nothing. I don't wear a pin simply because I don't think of it. I don't wear a watch either. I don't like adding extra things to anything, including my outfit. I like the nice, clean look.

The true test of unity is if we ever strike. Then see who crosses and who doesn't. Talk, or in this case Text, is cheap! You will be amazed at who actually crosses the line when it happens. Some of the most loud and pro-union folks now will be some of the first to cross, guaranteed.

Even my cars that I drive are all stock, no extras.

Thanks for answering my question, pilot groupie.

I didn't make up what someone told me. And you're right, everyone's got an excuse for not wearing the pin, but it's always a choice not to wear it, not ignorance about it's existence.

Leading up to and during my furlough to have senior non-scab pilots bragging about what an opportunity this was to get 110, 120, 130 hours of pay due to staffing being so thin, and calling scheduling to help them work the next day's trips didn't pass the smell test either, so it's entirely believable to me that pilots eat their young, regardless of the carrier. But having a union is vastly better than not having one and wearing the pin has nothing to do with the name of the union but rather with the people in it, and the pin shows support for them even though some of them may not feel the same way.
