Default Pay Stubs

California law requires employers to provide pay stubs. This does not include downloading an electronic pdf as a pay record on a dodgy sometimes available web page. A complaint was filed with the CA labor board.

United's response was that, "The complaint was in error, in fact, all employee...uhhh co-workers, voluntarily opted out of getting pay records mailed to them. Each co-worker still has the right to get paper pay records. from Skynet."

Hmm, I'm sure this was just another oversight by IT.

You can now, re-opt in for paper pay records mailed to your house by the following link, you have to get past the 787 scab captain first by logging into Skynet:

Skynet>Employee services>My Info then under Payroll, click "Show More"
Click on "Opt-Out Paper Pay Advice" Like official payroll/IRS documents are advice in the first place? Ahhh...that explains all the mistakes, they just advise us what our pay might be......

Scroll down, then click on "Continue to receive paper pay documents" and remember to click on Save.

Astounding....I shudder to think what's next, and you know there will be a next.

Thanks for the tip. I'll ask for paper pay stubs right away. While I'm at it, I think I'll ask them to mail me my paycheck. Then I will bring the check to the bank with my passbook and get the teller to deposit it.

I wonder if I can get them to issue me paper non-rev passes as well.

What really irks me is the phone number for crew scheduling. Too many big digits. It's a real work out to dial their number on my rotary phone.

I know you think you are being sarcastic and being snarky has its place--but I would say not here. Since the merger UAL has had a long history of ignoring CA law. They got caught It seems the only penalty is to comply with the law. Looks like the same MO as the contract.

When it comes time to pay your bills, and Skynet crashes yet again and you can't access your pay statement, and you have no idea how much money you were paid, you might want to think about your responses again. Meaning, you can figure how much you think you are owed, but actually paid might be another story.

I can guess how you feel about it, but I don't appreciate it when the company fucckkks with my pay.

I apologize if you are offended by Dave's post. Allow me to point out that L-UAL Pilots are not used to rolling over when arbitrary and capricious pronouncements come down from on high. Everything is negotiable or at least, agreed to in advance. That's the way we are used to doing business - it shows respect for employees. Apparently, you prefer the way the current management makes changes by simply announcing "This is the way we will do this from now on".

The opinion letter from CA regarding electronic pay stubs was issued on December 4, 2002 and United has been in compliance with the provisions of the opinion letter since it was issued. The complaint wasted scarce resources and we all shudder to think "what's next?" after reading threads like these.

I use direct deposit (which I assume you do a well). I get an email anytime there is a deposit. I usually check my balance before paying bills, so I know what's in there. I don't know what Skynet is. I do know that the electronic pay stub is typically posted under "My Info" about two days previous to pay day. Much faster than any paystub that the company would either mail or distribute in my file.

I don't think this is really much if an issue. You have the option to opt in, so go ahead and do it.

Besides, I put that smiley face emoticon at the top of my post.

If Skynet, I think you mean flyingtogether, crashes you can always call your bank to get the deposit amount or use your online banking access. Last time I got a paper pay stub was when I had to drive to the airport and pickup my check. Glad those tasks are behind me.

Dave, if there ever is an election for volunteer Pilot PD chief- responsible for making sure the company or fellow pilots follow arcane and archaic rules to the letter- I will certainly give you my vote.

BTW, my company "mailbox" is no longer a real box. Might wanna get right on that.

I miss getting the three envelops in my v-file with the three parts to the pay stub.
Gives people in the office something to do and job security.

There are monetary damages which can be awarded in cases where a business violates the CA code as it relates to pay stubs.

Can you please cite specific cases of United ignoring CA law since the merger?
