Default United Airlines converts 787 order

http://finance.yahoo.com/news/united...154414192.html

So does this mean that this will defer the 25th 787 arriving on property? Another giveaway to the CAL side?

Fence comes down regardless.

"We adopted, with some modification, the CAL Committee's more streamlined proposal to fence, for five years, B787 widebody flying for premerger CAL pilots and B747/A350 widebody flying for premerger UAL pilots."

It says you fly on the 747. You may want to ask your guys why they wanted the fence? I believe the fence was requested by the LUAL committee to protect the 747 guys so the arbitrator put the 787 on there to make it equal. If UAL didn't ask for a fence I don't think there would be a fence. From what I read, the CAL comm. did not want a fence.

I completely agree, I think that the fences were a bad idea.

Having to wait an extra 5 years for the -10 also explain why we' re hanging on the 763 longer I suppose...

Looks like we also bought 2 used 73-700.. Hope to see a good size order for small narrow body to bring some domestic feed back to mainline.

The fence removal will still be triggered by the 25th aircraft, before the five years from ISL implementation trigger, since the 25th aircraft is due in early 2016.
The deferrals are moving 787-8's from 2017-2018 to 787-10's in 2022, so irrelevant to the fence since the fence will come down 1-2 years before the deferrals.

It was ABSOLUTELY a boneheaded move on the LUAL negotiating committee's part. Their one real misstep in my opinion, but a big one. No one to blame but ourselves on that one.

HOWEVER, this announcement doesn't change the current timeline of the 25th airplane from Jan 2016. The order conversion was for 787-8's that were not supposed to deliver until 2017-2018. This is a good move, as the 8 is not the best variant out there

Quit posting facts, GB. You're ruining what surely woulda been a fantasticly uplifting unity themed thread!

The fences aren't really a big deal. We have 700+ airplanes, and the CAL side is fenced off 25 of those (3% of fleet roughly) and the LUAL pilots initially fenced off only 8 787's (1% of fleet).

Most pilots aren't bidding across legacy boundaries anyway. The 777s, 757/767 and guppies are mixed fleets, since the UAL side starting getting the 1st of its 100 guppies last year and there are already 30 of them.

It's a big deal for the west coast 747 and 777 guys that can't chase the flying that is steadily matriculating over to the 787.
