Viper,
I'm moving to the 777 too. I expect to hit the line in November. If we fly together, I buy the beers
but seriously dude - that's gonna be a not fun reserve gig. Do you have the bid already or are you looking to the future?

Viper, the other thing to consider is that being a global category, they can pretty much roll you into any of your blocks of days off except the 1, 6 day hdo block. Commuting to reserve sucks obviously, but commuting to global reserve blows.

Still baffled that so many people chose to read ignorance into my initial question, but I've been on this board long enough to have seen the condescension of some posters. To all of you, have some candy.

Looking over his past posts I think he's been here a couple years and is retired military commuting from PHX.

Sounded like QOL might be better as you can steal days off easier than narrow body. The impression I'm getting here is the company is doing the same thing across all fleets--handing out short calls to everyone.
I now commute from Nashville, so ORD/EWR are preferred for commuting purposes. IAH has too much competition with the RJ guys & frequency to IAD isn't good.

When you ask about reserve life on the 787 in ORD and EWR you have to expect it. Many assumed you were a new Hire since there has never been a 787 based in ORD or EWR.

Been with the company long enough to have played the reserve game & had good success with it. Understand commuting to reserve sucks, but thought maybe long haul reserve didn't have the same short call mayhem going on that happens in the narrow body fleets. From what little useful information I've gotten by posting my question, it appears the company is at least being consistent across all airframes.

With that said, speaking of RSV how's life on the 744 in IAH?

Looks like 'ol Viper is not not a new hire, but yet new enough (Feb '14 hire) to not hold the 777 or 787 in any base, either.

This thread is mental masturbation for a future bid. Well that and gummy bears.

Thanks Sunvox, just trying to get a feel for the water given the upcoming vacancy bids coming this fall. I ran the math and I'm working 16-18 days/month as a 320 line holder to make the same money I'd make as a reserve on wide body. Figured if I could steal a few days off while sitting long call, I come out ahead.

And they love to do a 0200 or 0300 your last day as well. When there's no flying or less(as there is now) the SC's are every where. They're even doing field standby's with all the SC. All legal. Something I hope we can change. The problem, so few on reserve that it's hard to get momentum in large numbers to change this.
Good luck on your future bid.

From his initial question, he certainly has not been here long. But yes, reserve royally sucks the big one. Contract time...
