Ding ding ding!!!

My last reserve day in ORD before moving to SFO, going into HDO's, crew desk gave me short call.

So I asked, why? He said, "To protect the integrity of the operation." As I've said before, no 1 day trips, can't move the next day off, only 2 777 departures during the short call before automatic release, and they are multi-day trips.....he said, ".....uhh, to protect the...."

It looks like they are doing about 2-3 a day at least during various times. Shortcalls I've seen 6-8 a day pretty common with various days of availability.

Actually, I meant as an individual pilot on reserve. How many FSB's per month is a typical pilot getting?

I had 2 FSB's and 1 short call this week alone. Last week it was 3 short calls....I'd say on avg, maybe 4 FSB/month

Have never done a FSB and sat SC twice on EWR 756 in 6 mos. Pickup trips through APU on first day of LC and limit my reserve periods to 4 days. Useless on last day. Not an option for really Jr reserves on 50 person daily list and many less open trips to pickup, so YMMV

Useless on the last day until they decide to run an extra section domestic turn somewhere. I remember about a dozen years ago they did so and found a bunch of guys out of position. Somebody I know got a month off for that.

I don't fly the 757/767, so I'm not in the loop. Does anyone on here know why the company increased FO staffing so dramatically in the last few months? Are they anticipating the the 76T FO's will not choose to transition when the time comes?
