A reserve related question... Can you pick up open time at other bases if you're on reserve?

No. Only a line holder can do this if a trip is open the day before after 1300 local domicile time and the line holder has enough days to available to pick up the trip. And that trip must not come within 30 hours of that line holders other trips.

Actually, you can. You have to call the crew desk, and it's completely up to the person you talk to. Most crew desk people won't do it or don't know how to do it. They have to ask a supervisor. Then, usually only if they are short staffed on the base you are looking to pick up.

It literally pays to keep track, say if you are commuting out of another base. It's rare, but can be done.

Like Dave said, you have to call. I flew with a reserve trying to get into a domicile in which he wasn't based, but lived. He watched the open time and regularly called to volunteer for the out of base trips so he wouldn't have to commute. Said he had pretty good luck with it, one month having to commute just once to the base he didn't live in, having picked up out of base trips to the base he did live in on the rest of his reserve days. One thing to his advantage was that his assigned base was large and had a lot of reserves, the base where he lived was much smaller and ran out of reserves quickly. If scheduler says he doesn't know how, just suggest he put fake DH on both ends of the trip.

Thanks for the gouge fellas. I'll give it a shot. I'm A320 based in DCA but live in Houston.

Cheers
