Was told last week by one in the CPO that the spirit deal fell through......FWIW

Supposedly a lot of their leases will be expiring soon and Boeing is banging out guppies as fast as they can at wholesale prices. I could see a scenario where we alleviate Alaska of those hulls as Boeing cranks out guppies to replace them.

This is what I have been thinking is a very likely scenario and I hope it happens.

Sure would be nice but don't their Airbi have the wrong engines?

Astute observation. After a cursory Google search, looks like they have CFMs.

Also, and unlike the 737, several major components have different suppliers on the 320. From a pilot's perspective the two biggest ones would be the motors and the FMGCs (Honeywell or Thales). This makes mixing Airbus fleets a little trickier but not impossible.

Useless trivia: JetBlue's 320s are optioned virtually identically to UA's. Back in 1999 the leasing companies did not think JB would succeed so they wanted airframes with lots of existing North American parts support for resale value.

I thought the chinese 319's we are getting also have CFM's, but I can't remember.

I don't think that having common engines is as important as it used to be. So much heavy maintenance is outsourced, it may not be much of an issue.

Also, don't we have over 300 guppies with.........CFM's? The fan is bigger on the bus version, but other than that I think they are pretty much the same.

The 756 fleet has 3 different engine types. I wouldn't worry about that.

We have GE and rolls Royce powered 757s. I think we would be okay!

Just as a rule of thumb, info from a CPO is just as worthless as a TK rumor.

Chinese 319s are IAE. Agree on the rest. Not insurmountable and VAs 320's are ETOPS.
