No matter now. I'm done with it. If I see the vents closed the APU comes on, hot or cold, 5 prior or 90 prior, rain or shine. They don't want to change the FM, no longer my concern.
Agree.

737-900 in IAH or any other hot climate, that APU has to be on and packs full cold (without freezing them which is fun) at least 30 prior to boarding. You shove 180+ people into that thing it turns into a sauna in no time.

Actually, it is the courtesies of the previous crew..
How hard is it to open vents, turn down the crt's, unplug the headset, take out your spit cup? What's next?rewriting the sop to tell us when to eat?
It's common sense, and just plain courtesy to your fellow momma U pilots.

Past practice has always been to leave minitels plugged in. Coming to a fleet near you.

I have to admit I never saw a spit cup in a cockpit in almost 20 years until I got to IAH. Just saying

So are we supposed to keep the headsets plugged in or not? Seems like there's some disagreement on that.

And how about the seats... full forward so you can check circuit breakers and ship set or full back so it's easier to get in the seat?

I don't ever mind doing these things, but there doesn't really seem to be an agreement on it.

I like to put the shades up (when installed and it's hot out) as well.

Also, put in the next callsign, dial airspeed back to 100, 0000 in the squawk, switch to "1" and above, even put in 800 above field in the RA.
Takes me less than 30 seconds. Almost always get a comment from the Capt... sometimes good sometimes not.

My view is that leaving open vents at the gate is not a courtesy, that is, a nice thing to do, but rather an operational necessity, to extend the life of aircraft equipment and to maintain a working area for safety-critical workers that is undistracted by environmental extremes.

It depends on which side of the prison yard you come from. One side almost always used the minitel on the airplane and kept them plugged in with the band attached to the Mic before leaving the aircraft. The other side either had their own headset, a liberated minitel, or used the one screwed into the overhead(never could understand why it was permanently attached). I guess that side always left it unplugged for the next headset dujour.

The 756 just made it SOP to plug in the aircraft minitel before leaving the cockpit. In a nutshell, if it's not sop, do what you think is best. It sounds like with your post flight routine you already are.

As for the seat position, we used to have it full forward so we could sling our flight bags by the window. With the advent of ship sets and iPads some don't slide them forward anymore. I do like your idea of having them forward to check cb's.

Good luck on Denver.

I really don't think we need to write SOP for how to leave the cockpit. I think a bit of courtesy is all that is required.

Now what were we talking about again?

I seem to always forget to plug in my headset until the CA asks me to call for push. I don't carry my own headset. The aircraft headset is never plugged in and is shoved in one of the 32 hidden cubby holes in the 787. I then have to go searching along with the bunkies for the headset all while the CA asks me why I don't have a headset and gets irritated. Once a headset is found he then orders me to take it for myself at which time I tell him I refuse to steal company property. The entire thing irritates the crap out of me.

Twice now we have shut the door and then realized that there are no more headsets on the flight deck. Once the door had to be re-opened so we could get one and the other time the bunkie gave me his and used that 1940's era head clamp in the 756.

You plug the headset back in because it belongs to the aircraft. And quit stealing company property and if you do steal company property please write the headset up as missing so I can do my job.

Thank you

P.S. I only quoted you CAL because you used the word SOP. I agree common courtesy should be all thats required.

I use the speaker and a hand mic quite a bit but I do try to remember to plug in the headset (if its unplugged). The Hand-mic and the speaker has gotten me out of jams like the one you describe. I hate the feeling of "co-workers waiting on me". Get that call for push in and scour for headsets later. I have never found an aircraft without a working headset yet. But i fly the 737 and a lot of guys bring their own headsets because Its not exactly quiet up front. Its better than the emb-145 but its still loud.
