I live in Rocklin, 120 miles to the lot, no traffic is 1:50, I sat SC all the time, and if they call and traffic sucks, I just give them a heads up. Never had any issues.

That's at least 3 hours.

Thinking that living in Fresno is ok should be a disqualifier from the start.

Fresno is an easy 3 hrs and 15 mins "normal" driving time... short call rule is 2 hrs 30 mins normal driving time. You'd get away with the excuse of traffic one time... then you'd get called on the carpet to show how a 3 1/4 hour drive can be done in 2 1/2 hours... you'll lose. If on probation you'd probably get fired after the first late show.

Which is all part of the Universe's way of telling you: "You should not live in Fresno."

A guy could get away with it if he was willing to travel a bit on short call. Plan on spending the day in maybe San Jose while in short call. At least until you were holding a line. Not a bad option if it was temporary.

My point. It would require heroic measures to make it. Not a good idea for a new hire to test the 2 1/2 rule from any location.

Then again, after all, this is Fresno we are talking about....right? Have to question the idea/judgment in the first place.
