Default Missing VEBA payments

If you are one of those that received a check under the PTC up pay deal ( now dead), you might want to check to make sure the PRAP DC plan or Veba got a corresponding contribution. If you have already maxed out your PRAP then the 16% should go to your Veba. Worth checking as it can amount to hundreds$$

Why would it be missing? The PTC pay up wasn't paid separately. It's figured into your paycheck normally (that is if you emailed the pay desk to for PTC plus up). But the contribution amount comes from the gross pay on your check, with no distinction.

Is that how yours was paid? Mine was paid separately.

??? Paid separately?

If you are talking about excess contributions over your 401K max, yes, that is paid separately, but that's not what your original message was about. It was about PTC plus up. That isn't paid separately from the rest of your gross pay. Therefore, your percentages that go into 401K, and then excess to VEBA, are based off of your entire gross pay. There is not a separate portion for PTC plus up pay. Not sure what you are having a concern about?

By paid separately I am talking about the PTC plus pay. I sent an email, they paid it in a seperate check (electronic). However, there was no corresponding payment to my VEBA.
PRAP was already maxxed out.

Yes, that was my original message.

I think this is a good example of why the practice had to be stopped. No consistency and no defined process. Errors on top of errors. I hope this does lead to a LOA so we can get it back. However if the company wants to throw a tantrum and continue to get something for free, oh well.

Since they did not pay you properly, my guess is you have no recourse. It wasn't defined in the contract.

Oh, I will get paid. I got an answer to my payroll query already.

As for the practice, I for one am sorry to see it end, since I always bid "low". Our schedules suck so bad now due to the homogonis nature of the pairing and the flying on the 756 fleet- that is the only way to have any flexibility. So in a vacation month (every other one for me), I have no way to pick up time if PBS builds the line on the low side of the range. My alternative is to bid wide and suck it up with a possible 14 days off.

I did take the IAD LEC advice and wrote to that company negotiator whose email address they provided. According to him, the company was very willing to put the practice in an LOA, just like the center seat practice- until it could be fixed at the next contract. The union did not want that. They wanted a complete overhaul of the pay system to automate that AND FMLA, MIL Leave, COLA, etc... That was not going to happen and they knew it. This goes back to the UALPA fundamental philosophy against picking up open flying. So, we live with crappy PBS schedules, no way to fix them in vacation months, lower pay in vacation months, and less scheduling flexibility.

Good news they are going to make you whole on the pay. I would not have guessed that.

How do we know what the pilot group itself is experiencing in this area.

I read the thread, and I have no idea if the company owes me money or not. How would ALPA determine if their pilots are owed money and how does that accounting process take place?

We don't know. ALPA has not gone back and calculated who is owed what, like was done with the hold back amounts. Or if they have, they are not telling. That would not be helpful to their agenda if they were to publish a page showing something like 5000 pilots were underpaid something like oh, $1700 each since the first of the year.

After the company and the union published the memos on how to figure it, I couldn't do it, since mpg can change through out the month and I did not have snap shots for each day's mpg for each vacation month.

What I did is to look at vacation months where I had traded/picked up time, sent an email to [email protected] and told them I think I may have been underpaid due to picking up Ca#!@$ trip during a vacation month. Within a day, they replied for each month and said something like - "oh yeah you are owed $$$$$. Got paid no problem.

So, payroll can calculate it for you.

Now, that was before the peeing contest concluded with the neg committees, and the union called "halt and decist".

Dunno know if they would do that now, or even if the union would let them.

YMMV
