Default "We modify our aircraft order book"

From the company email:

We modify our aircraft order book

We have modified our aircraft order book, converting an order to Boeing for 65 737-700s into four 737-800s, to be delivered in the second half of 2017, and the remaining aircraft will be converted into larger 737MAXs for delivery in the future.

“This change will help us to significantly reduce our near-term capital expenditures and allow us to take larger, more technologically advanced and fuel-efficient aircraft in the future,” said Fleet VP Ron Baur. “We’re looking closely at our options in both the new and used aircraft market to ensure that we are making the right investments for our customers and for our company.”
Sounds like delayed growth/hiring, and less RJ-replacement to me.

No bueno?

That's exactly what it sounds like, IMHO.

Cynically, I'm gonna suspect the money saved on capex will make a for a neat "stockholder initiative."

That's not good news at all...best hope is that the regionals continue to have staffing issues bc their pilots are being hired elsewhere. I think that'll be the only thing to get the company's attention is when their jets don't fly

Looks like Kirby and Levy's influence is alive and well. Kirby in particular LOVES the RJ's. Wonder what this is going to do the hiring numbers. I'm guessing they cut in half

So does anyone think this is based on the company being nervous about the future of the economy under the incoming leadership?

Maybe, but Kirby was touting that they were going to max out the regional scope well before the election. I'm guessing that this has been in the works since he got here. Just a guess, mind you, based completely on his comments.

Ya that does make sense. I have read some commentary about him and now that you mention it, it sounds like his style...

I believe the number 630 was thrown out by BK for 2017 (down from 1100?) at the veterans event in SFO (an attendee told me)...BK mentioned something about being cautious to not over-hire (second hand, I wasn't there)...FWIW

There have been some posts in the thread about that veteran event that mention the 630ish number is what was in BK's hiring presentation given.
