That's the point. They figured out a way to do it in the same footprint. $

It is a more complicated answer. The 767 Polaris, they packed em in. The 777, no so much. Lie flat BF in the triple was 8 across, looks like 6 in the new jets.

I looked at 76's and 777's on employee res. The 76 polaris is the same footprint. The 777's, not even close. 30 % more floor space per seat.

You're missing the point. it's not a 1 for 1 on how many abreast.

Provides all-aisle access without sacrificing the
density of the aircraft
 Other all-aisle solutions would have reduced
economy cabin by 20-30 seats
 Competitive to other business class seats in
dimensions, side furniture and amenities
 Preserves $2M to $4M of profit per aircraft
per year, depending on aircraft type

For United’s new Polaris cabin, Acumen’s designers figured out how to replace United’s two current business class configurations, which require many passengers to step over seat-mates to reach the aisle – with one that allows easy aisle access for all, and they did so without requiring the airline to remove any seats. According to Acumen, after retrofits, United’s Boeing 777s and Boeing 787s will have exactly as many premium seats as today – in the same space.

Now we need them in the 757 so we don't have to crawl over someone for crew rest....Great idea that was

If amazon puts its new HQ in DEN, which I’m pretty sure it will, thoughts on that having united add some international flying? Should be interesting for y’all seeing as though DEN is senior

Before the new 767-300 rumor got started, I assumed we'd find a way to buy some used 767s to bridge the gap to the 797. It did not occur to me that 767 pax production might actually restart. I don't think there are a lot of used 767s on the market out there and aside from a deal with DAL, it would be difficult to make a single deal big enough to fit our needs. The rumored 3 used -300s from HAL seems pretty inadequate. So a 767 restart actually makes sense at the right price, especially if we can work a trade-in of our oldest ones sooner for cargo converts and any new ones later for the same when MOM finally arrives.

So here's what's on my mind. What are some routes that we fly which are only viable with the 757? I'm thinking along the lines of DCA to SFO. Some of the current TATL 757 routes may be candidates for upgauging to a 767-300 if we increased the 767 fleet... or maybe some are too thin for upgauging. I think 757 TATL routes out of IAD and ORD might be good candidates for upgauging (are there enough WB capable gates?). I'm thinking along with replacing our oldest 767s, a deal for new ones would result in some shrinkage of the 757 fleet. Our oldest 757s would be put out to pasture, and the remainder would soldier on in the routes where there is no viable replacement. I still think the reported 50-100 potential orders for new 767s is rather high, at least for us. But, if some new 767s are intended to take over for our oldest 757s, perhaps we'd buy 30-40? I'd think we'd want the first few hitting the line before summer 2019, but that may be too soon for a pax version restart.

Disclaimers - I'm not inclined to think an order for new 767s would represent any significant overall fleet growth. Really just one for one replacement and some upgauging until the 797 enters service in about a decade. If management thinks they can dangle new 767s in front of us for contract concessions they are wrong.

CLazarus, in all likelihood this news probably has become public as a way to pressure airbus for pricing improvement on the 350. You're most likely right the used mkt is minimal to nonexistent for our needs, but given the timing with the 350 order restructure I have to assume there is an agenda.

I think the agenda is probably linked to early openers. "Give us scope concessions and we'll grow the airline."
