Bring a TPA commuter , LGA is a pain in the arse , only delta serves it as Jetblue pulled out of that route . So I actually want to avoid LGA trips , I have bearded plenty of A320 trips start and end out of LGA on the 320 versus the 737 flying primarily out of EWR ,

It's too bad cause currently fly the 320 so the transition would be easy, but I fear LGA could be regrettable .

Is ewr looking to get any new Airbus flying ? It is it safe to say just if the 737 for the reasons of avoiding LGA , also what are the short call out times for reserves to LGA ? And compensation for getting to and from tHere ? LGA to JFK is one thing , but Neawrk LGA is a whole other animal

There is crosstown pay when you start a trip from an airport different than the primary airport. If you get tagged with a LGA trip, there is some extra pay which more than covers the expense of getting there. I couldn't find the exact amount, but I think it's around $150.

Don't count on new flying for the Bus in EWR...at least don't factor it in to which plane you choose. They could throw you a curveball and give you Dulles. The commute from TPA is potentially easier...but you'd be covering three airports.

Maybe I missed it...but do you have a class date or are you just considering United?

A good friend fly the Bus out of ORD.

I'll throw it out there and say if I get through my upcoming interview, my two questions are.

Which airframe to get me to ORD the fastest?

What would be better for the near term out of ORD, the guppy or the bus?

eagleatr 03-03-2017 03:55 PM

Overall, the guppy fleet is twice the size of the Airbus fleet, and there are more of those coming (new ones). Most of the movement is on the guppy fleet as well, at least as it stands now.

Faster way to ORD is 737....

Uber is about $40 from JFK to LGA, well below crosstown pay for a LGA trip, even for a r/t. Doubtful EWR will get more 'bus trips. If you want EWR, bid the guppy.

For poolies or hopefuls, I was hired 15 months ago. At my specific seniority, I can now hold any base except DEN, CLE, or GUM.

SFO, DCA, EWR, LAX were all available to me as a new hire, either on the 737 or 320. ORD on the 737 in less than 6 months, ORD on the 320 and IAH on the 737 in under a year. I can also now hold 756 in SFO, LAX, EWR, and DCA.

Percentage-wise I'd be at 55% on the 737 in SFO, 74% on the 320, 93% on the 756.
DCA has a bigger gap, 60/85/97, EWR smaller 70/77/93, LAX 70/75/93, ORD 85/88/100, IAH 88/100/100

YMMV. It doesn't matter so much who's senior to you as it does who's junior to you. But its an easy bet that SFO, DCA and EWR will most frequently have openings junior to you, whereas ORD, IAH, and DEN will have far fewer, and the 737, being a larger fleet will have more turnover than the 320, even if neither fleet grows much.

I guess if you consider 20% a large portion?

What's the Airbus Transition?
The A320 to B777 I assume? I've heard of it.

I'm not sure what your question is. Are you asking how long the course is?

Bus to any Boeing, full course. The 777 is currently around a month long.

The only short courses available are if you were on the new equipment in the last 2 years, or 777 to 787.

shooterganja 03-08-2017 12:36 PM

Has anybody heard anything about upcoming new hire classes?
2 classes/month? Thanks!

I'm taking your advice and getting the four year. No worries.

DWC CAP10 USAF 03-12-2017 07:34 PM

I interviewed last week. White board next to Doris' desk said interviewees could expect mid June Indoc, so currently about 3 months turn around. Also was told they would give at least 30 days notice prior to being assigned Indoc date.

I don't think that's correct. It should be just under 30 days notice. Seats are held for returning pilots until 30 days prior to the class.

rightside02 03-13-2017 01:33 PM

Mid June for class ? I thought May 2nd was the end of classes till after summer ?

That's the last announced class. Still expecting additional classes to be announced in the next few weeks, likely at fewer than 3 per month.

Half wing 03-15-2017 01:58 PM

Tuesday's class had:

13 737 to EWR, LAX, SFO
10 320 to EWR, LAX

Tippy 03-17-2017 02:22 PM

Mother was an FA at UA for 35 years. Would that help my application at all?
also a veteran, how much does that help?

Similar situation with retired UAL family member. I was wondering the same thing. I know on airline apps it has a section for immediate family working for the airline. Years ago they also had a "Sons and Daughters" program but I think that went away a while back. Anyone with info on anything else for UAL brats would be appreciated.

blizzue 03-19-2017 08:19 AM

My grandfather worked for UAL for 34 years and wasn't a pilot; they told me to list him in the legacy section of the application.

I start class Tuesday.

Half wing 03-19-2017 08:21 AM

I'm thinking probably not too much help. It helps a lot more if you have someone on the inside pulling for you. They probably don't look at apps with under 1000 jet PIC and a 4 year degree unless you have a few space shuttle re-entries or something pretty significant.

blizzue 03-19-2017 08:24 AM

I interviewed with zero jet PIC and a few internals.

BK said on a webinar a while back that having a legacy referral was worth a significant amount of points towards getting the interview.

Half wing 03-19-2017 08:32 AM

Congrats....
