Default New Hires to MIA

Hello all

My application currently is Active in the system and recently attended a job fair which I think went pretty well. I live in the South Florida area and would really like to know how soon a new hire can hold MIA. I've perused the previous threads but i would like to post this question specifically. This is a big factor for me if I get the option to work for UPS. I would like to go in with the most current picture of what my life might look like.

Thanks in Advance

You will no doubt be sent to ANC. If you listed ANC or somewhere in the northwest as your home, you would probably get sent to MIA. That's how we roll here at OOPS. We are not happy until you are not happy! In all seriousness, you can get sent anywhere they what to send you. I know some newhires have been sent to MIA, but I don't think it has been very many. I would say chances are better for SDF or ANC as a base.

Awesome!! Well. I guess the next question would be, if I end up in ANC or SDF, What are my odds of bidding down to MIA on the next system bid. Or how Senior do I have to be to hold MIA especially in the current hiring climate

Miami usually goes very senior in a system bid . your best chance of coming to Miami if there are openings in your first day of class of course you still have to hold it base on your class seniority.

Good luck

There has been about 1 757 MIA slot per new hire class lately, on average. Assignments are bid by age (old=senior).

You never know if there will be MIA slot(s) in your class, and if they will go senior or junior.

If MIA is your first choice, and you cannot get it, bid the 757 regardless, because you can change domiciles at the next bid, presuming there is an opening and you can hold it.

If you get Airbus/MD/747 you have an 18 month seat lock as a new hire, I believe.

BTW I heard junior MIA schedules really suck, but who knows?

good luck!

Junior MIA can suck because there are a lot of turns, which means you're driving in MIA traffic a lot. I believe the reserve call out there is 2 hours rather than 90 minutes UPS likes everywhere else.

But if you live close to the airport you're set. I would bet anyone hired this year into another domicile would be able to hold MIA by the end of his first year.

This.
I live in S FL and was hoping for MIA. There were two MIA spots in my class but i was towards the junior end and got stuck on the bus. I've got my bid change in for when i hit the 18 month mark.
But who knows I might change my mind and decide to move to SDF? This seems to be a pretty nice town!

Its all a role of the dice....

4 guys in my class got MIA and none of them wanted it. They were junior. The more junior guys to them... got ANC-MD11. There is simply no way of knowing.

Observing the past few months I would advise any new-hire to be fully prepared for ANY seat, in ANY domicile for at least 24 months. If you aren't prepared or willing to do that... maybe UPS isn't the right choice for you.

I'm an Aug'16 hire 757 ONT, awarded MIA in Jan system bid with effective date of July.

Should head to training May/June.

According to my 3rd world math = 11 months.

Thanks for the insight everyone, I'm just hoping that I have a decision to make in the next couple months, but I would like to be as prepared as possible. Is there anyone out there that is currently Junior in MIA that would like to share some insight as to what a current Jr MIA schedule may look like. I live about 1.5 hours from MIA.
