Brownie is correct - the seat lock only goes away for the new domicile and if you could hold it.

What about this? I read as any captain who can’t hold SDF74 captain can bid down to any FO seat.

“ In addition, status downbidding to any seat shall be allowed as part of any vacancy bid, provided the crewmember cannot hold a position in a new domicile in his current status.”

What about the hundreds of seat-locks that’ll expire because of the new domicile? Guys/gals who just finished their training will now be able to bid other fleets and domiciles. That’s VERY different from other bids, isn’t it?
It’s different from a crewmember perspective. But the number of training events a vacancy can create is contractually limited. Therefore, seat lock or not, it won’t change the number of events. Obviously, UPS would prefer the seat locked people to stay where they are but on a macro level, a 747 SDF bid will create a known level of churned training events. Some of those will be people who are benefiting from a seat lock being removed some won’t. The point I’m making is this: everybody has been saying things about how it has to be small because of all the shake up it will create. But on a macro level, every system bid creates a known amount of downline training events. This will be no different. It’s why UPS insisted on it being in the contract.

So with everything eventually shaking out with the new domicile in SDF how do you guys think this is going to effect aircraft assignments for new hires in the first quarter of 2020? What’s expected to be the junior assignment is classes? And do you expect that there will be available assignments on all fleets (except 747 SDF)?

My guess would be that everything except SDF 747 will have some availability for new hires. What is offered to a given class may vary wildly. That said, some think the top half of the SDF 747 will go super senior and that rest super junior. Lots of rumors swirling about what the flying will look like.

Hello! Would some of you be willing to share your qualifications upon being hired? UPS is my goal and I’m curious if I’m competitive yet.

What's your background? Widely variable based on military, civilian, corporate, heavy international, leadership and instructor roles, etc.

One more question on UPS hiring preferences: I'm a retired USAF F-16 pilot, 2200 TPIC, 2600 Total. I was out of flying for 10 years but recently got back into it through a regional airline. Been flying for about 6 months now in an ERJ-145. Does UPS like to see multiple years of recent experience (like 2 years?).
Thanks

I think it’s safe to say the more the better in terms of recent experience, though I wouldn’t think your situation would be disqualifying. What you did in the last 10 years and why will be a major area of focus.
