Give the guy/gal a break. Paying back 100k plus is quite a bit different than taking 100k pay cut. I am taking 150k plus pay cut to join and gladly doing so. But if I had to pay back an employer 100k plus I would have to organize myself and my family’s life to do so…which could take months or a year.

You are aiming at early retirement - I would get that earlier class date and ask your previous employer for a reasonable payment plan.
This is something that our new hires (really everyone on the seniority list) need to start accounting for. There is an excellent chance that 2023 will effectively have something less than 13 pay periods. If you are a June or July hire this year, you probably won’t have the opportunity to make back much of what you lost on first year pay before we are walking the picket line to support the Teamsters. It’s impossible to know how next year will go at this point, but everyone should have a plan for how they will make due not having UPS top off your bank account every two weeks. Hopefully, UPS caves and makes all of the Teamsters dreams come true before a strike happens. I’m skeptical that will happen.

A few questions, I applied in Jan and my app went inactive...no TBNT email, does that mean my app is dead in the water? Also, I'm guessing there is no way to update now that the window is closed, I added a heavy type in between applying and right after the window closed.

They will, they’ll probably allow facial tattoos and piercings to placate the new generation. Oh wait, they did that already..

Seriously though, new folks - not easy to do but yes, even the new folks please start saving money. The teamster strike will probably happen and yes, we WILL honor it.

I appreciate the different perspectives and I learned a bit about impending paycheck obstacles. My initial post was simply share what I've learned that the company is willing to do in regards to start date flexibility. My situation is not as one dimensional as the responses it received suggest and I made my decision based on my long term plan (keep my six figures and work 10-12 years vs give up my six figures and work 10-12 years). Again, I realize furlough is a threat all professional pilots face and sooner is better when getting a line number. As for the Teamster strike, no I didn't figure that into my decision.. but it sounds like keeping my cash reserve will come in handy.

where do I apply, is there a special site for UPS pilot applications? The UPS website only has UAS pilot jobs opening?

Usually opens in January. From what I've seen here, they have quite a few applications on file to get them through to January. But never know, keep an eye out on upsjobs. Could randomly open
