Still CJO at the end of the interview if successful?

- I have CJOs with Delta and FedEx, and currently FedEx is my #1. However, there are definitely some advantages to UPS based on my personal circumstances. I know this question has been asked in the past, but as of mid-2022, is there any reason to consider UPS over FedEx? (I still don't have a class date for either carrier).

Thank you.
I’m in a similar situation, in that I have CJOs with both UPS and FedEx. I interviewed with UPS last month. As far as the UPS process, you should expect a call from HR to arrange an interview via Zoom. The interview is still solely conducted on Zoom. About three days after the interview, I received a CJO phone call from HR. They mailed the drug testing kit and fingerprinting kits and I also had to complete some additional documentation online. Good Luck!

Do you live near a hub? Where's the easiest commute?

Pretty sure I got the 502 area code call to schedule the interview 3 days after my hogan pass. And it’s just a teams interview

We want to move to the Indy area, so both are viable options. I’ve wanted to work for FedEx for a long time, but with Indy being small (from what I’m told) and 767 only, there will likely be a commute for “a while.” Relatively easy commute to MEM, though, as best I can tell from the outside looking in.

Appealing points for UPS are: Louisville drive would be easy and I don’t need to stress about what aircraft based on single pay scale. Medical seems outstanding at UPS too.

Is the culture really that different? Is IPS that much better than ALPA (seems like it may actually be). I appreciate all the insight I can get!

Sorry for being a bit dense here, but just to confirm: there’s not an in-person portion to the interview anymore? Any other interview info you think would be good to know?

We definitely have a group of guys who commute down from Indy. It’s not a bad life. IPA is definitely better than ALPA, but that is a function of the pilot group and UPS management’s singular ability to unify our group. The flat payscale is nice, but it means that no fleet is exceptionally junior (no one year upgrades). You can bid fleet for QOL not money. All that said, the FedEx guys I know in Indy are happy and it’s not exceptionally senior. A short drive to work beats a 1.5-2 hour drive. Assuming you have the choice, go with the first class date but jump to FedEx.

I think you already know the answer.

You’ve wanted to work at FedEx a long time. Moving to Indy, you will eventually be able to have a short drive to work. While the drive down 65 is fairly easy, you may grow weary of it after years instead of the 30ish minute drive to Indy.

i agree with Tnkr. Take the first class, see what you think and then decide when faced with a choice. You may get somewhere and totally change your mind.

One thing I will say about living in Indy with FDX is that you won’t even need to be based there to get a ton of layovers at home. There are a lot of lines on the Airbus, 757, and 767 in MEM that do pure or majority Indy flying, many with DH on one or both ends.

No in person interview. You will get a call for a Teams interview from HR. I live in Zionsville, its a great area, and just started at Brown. 2:15 drive. I would have been interested in Purple mostly due to convenience of short commute to IND vs SDF but otherwise I had previously viewed them on par... my family and I will probably relocate closer to SDF after this school year. Other than that, Brown has been awesome so far and the IPA seems to be able to get a lot more done than ALPA could ever hope to accomplish. If you do move to indy and work Purple I cant speak highly enough about Zionsville, great community, great schools, and the toughest part for me relocating further south would simply be that I absolutely love this town.

Good luck with the offers and decisions!
