Probably referring to FY23, which finishes at the end of May ‘23.

why wouldn't they just say "no more hiring for the next 90 days" if indeed this is what they were referring to.

It depends on who “they” are and in what context “they” were speaking. “They” don’t know because Atlanta doesn’t know which way they are jumping yet. The economic indicators are all over the place. Even if Atlanta made the decision last week, they would change direction in a heartbeat if it looked like the economy was going down the tubes.

Bottom line: Be ready for interviews, but keep your apps elsewhere updated.

There was confusion about an email sent to some folks in the pool. It basically said that “we do not have our hiring plans for the remainder of 2023.” Some people interpreted that as no hiring in 2023. That is incorrect. They said that they expect to know the hiring allocations for 2023 in the second quarter.

Received this today:

The purpose of this email is provide an update regarding 2023 hiring for First Officer and address questions that have been received.

At this time, remaining class dates for 2023 have not been confirmed. Once class dates are confirmed, we will resume making job offers.

You have successfully completed the interview process for the First Officer position and will continue to be considered for future classes. Please note, this is not an official job offer.

Successful candidates that interviewed in 2022 will continue to be considered through the 2023 calendar year. If you do not receive a job offer in 2023, you will need to reapply.

Thank you for your patience during the process. Please contact us at [email protected] , if there are any changes in your status or interest in the First Officer position.

Best regards,
UPS Flight Operations Talent Acquisition

The worst part is the current economic state has nothing to do with fleet refresh. They will need to do it regardless. It’s not like UPS is not going to fly any more packages ever. All they are doing is creating a hole harder to get out of by putting off inevitable decisions. Fedex with all its operational issues at least is going forward with fleet refresh.
UPS brass cannot see beyond their noses.

I agree with your emotion, but financially our management has been crushing FedEx for years.
