Outside of VTP less than half a dozen have left recently. Post VTP, next year we only have about 35 retiring, so maybe double that to say 70, maybe. Next year seniority progression going to be very slow. Should return to 100+ in 2025. With 8 airplanes leaving and about the same coming in, I don’t see any hiring. We may see a realignment bid with say 50 or so upgrades to replace some of the VTP people, and to better balance Capt/FO ratio, but that’s it. And while schedules are horrible, they have gotten slightly better only due to amount of flying we have, less flying means they don’t have to stuff so much crap in the bag.

2017 and succeeding years were all strong years for hiring. 2014-2016 were relatively light hiring years in comparison. This means that calendar wise upgrades will almost certainly continue to slow. However, package volume will drive everything.
The CEO is explicitly pursuing higher revenue per package, not so much more packages. That said, the system needs some minimum level of package volume to make the economics work. It’s a balance that the companies appears to be struggling with right now. Personally, I think we’re likely to see a shifting strategy and some recovery in volume going forward as low hanging fruit the company intentionally ignored the last few years is picked. What this means for the average line pilot? My guess is average 75 upgrades per year over the next 3-4 years.

Not much info to report unfortunately and few people predict any hiring in 2024, but we do this thread yearly so here it is.
What we do know:
23 more 767 deliveries between now and 2026.
23 mandatory retirements in 2024, 35 in 2025, and 81 in 2026. 2028-2038 averages out to somewhere in the 140/yr range.
Some MD’s will be parked.
Negotiations for next contract begin.
Rumors:
Next system bid Feb 2024
No hiring until 2025

The last chunk of pages from this thread (2023 hiring) have some useful info on 2024 hiring.
As always, please try to keep commentary on topic so those interested in getting on here don’t have to waste their time digging through crap.
Mods, please sticky this thread. Thx!

Us MD types are very busy. No way can we spare any bodies for the 76 or 74. Y’all will just have to do more with less.
