Commuter for UPS
#22
"Commutable" isn't the word that comes to mind when I look at most A300 base lines...lots of short trips back-to-back with fairly short blocks of days off.
That said, you can turn water into (cheap) wine if you don't mind constantly checking opentime and submitting a couple hundred trip trades in order to have a few approved.

A fairly high up manager type recently told me that I'd probably only hold base type lines on the Airbus but those would be pretty easy to commute from. Pushing me pretty hard to consider management since I have a lot of experience running my own companies and RJ captain for almost four years. They seem to get a bad rap on here but this guy was very generous with his time and very helpful. Definely not the big bad guys that some on here make them out to be.

If you are going into management anyway, do it sooner than later and don't waste your time at the bottom of the pay scale. Spending time as a line guy won't buy you any respect if you cross. To put it into perspective, how would you like a 500 hour CFI giving you a line check in your RJ? Good luck.

As a 20 year employee @ UPSS, under the current conditions @ other airlines why would anyone want to work here?
*Hiring=Zero
*Aircraft orders=Zero
*Five year contract=now in year 10 & no end in sight
*Displacement bid just closed
*Retirements=40/yr
Compare this to other airlines that are hiring 50-100/month, hundreds of aircraft orders, TA or at least negotiationing in good faith, huge vacancy bids & 400-600 retirements/yr.
Not to mention the dispicable NURP ( non union replacement pilot) situation we have here, unlike ALL other airlines. NURPs have no "management" abilities other than flying our open time, thus ilimiting the necessary hiring.

What he said, Jesus how many times do we have to go through this?
If you have a chance at AA, UAL, DL, Fedex heed the advice of this guy and many others. Take it.
If UPS is your only option then take it, and leave as soon as possible.
BTW, do you poolies know that you have to reapply every year? I have heard that if you were in the pool last year its gone, no more. They flush it every year just like your app.
That's right, if you had an app on file last year, its gone. New one needed this year, that's what I understand to be the case.
Now maybe you will get a feel for what us brown turds put up with all the time. Its about like the class the had last year, these guys quit their jobs for brown and guess what? Like 10 days prior to the class they cancelled it, we were "overstaffed" for like 45 days (I don't remember the number) so here these guys were, no job, no class at Brown, nothing.
They finally gave them a class date, but it took a while.....hopefully you get the idea.
Carry on

If one wants Zero QOL for 10 years and Zero movement, this is your place.

OP or anyone else who cares, if all you care about is long blocks off you can do it here on the right fleet on reserve. I've done it and two week reserve can be great or absolutely brutal. Let me know how those long blocks are working for you as a manager. Nice flamebait.
