Yeah, that's a "culture" alright..
My mistake, Whale... Poor choice of words. I'm more than familiar with NURP culture and the strain it causes. I was speaking more about climbing the ladder and rising through the ranks from the inside. I meant no offense and apologize if I put you off.

But thanks for the links. Looks like just what I was looking for...

No offense taken and I'm glad you see the big picture.
There was a package thrower in my class and he was convinced his past work throwing boxes is what got him hired. He thought he did poorly in the sim and yet they offered him a class.

Hard to tell if it helped or not but either way, they'll want you to meet the minimums.. Good luck, we're all hoping to see more line-pilot hiring. ..and soon.

I'll have the mins in a couple months when I get 1000 TPIC. The biggest hurdle will be that HR computer algorithm. Being a box thrower seems like the best possible way to get by it. But who knows... I'm gonna try everything though.

Gents,
I just completed my UPS App. Fingers crossed from here.

Had a question in regards to one of the questions on the website for you more senior guys. It was a Yes/No question that asked if I have any realities working for UPS. My old man flys for UPS currently, so Yes was my answer. I do remember reading on the forms somewhere that UPS has removed their nepotism clause.

What's the current take on this subject with UPS? Would you all say it's still an "eyebrow raiser" more on the negative side, or does hiring now consider it neutral.

I guess my main concern is that if it is indeed now a non-discriminating factor and is looked upon as neutral, why would they still ask the question.

Thanks in advance for fielding the new guy question!
Much appreciated.

Cheers!

It has been removed and we have had father son, brothers get hired so I would think if your pops can walk in a application (granted they like him and his super secret file unlike mine is clear) you should move up the list.

Stealthy - it's definitely NOT a negative anymore. If anything it'll help you; seems like every second chief pilot hotline "brags" about somebody's brother, cousin, retried pilot's grandson, etc. getting hired.. So they definitely like it now..

PS. "Gents"? You just aged yourself..

They have been quite proactive in hiring family, maybe making up for lost time. I'm sort of surprised that your dad hasn't mentioned this as it is big news around here and with every class date they announce the relationship if it is a family member.

Not a negative and since you asked why the question is still there you have failed the first part of your interview. Never ask why around here, you will drive yourself crazy!!!

767pilot...sounds like the transition from military to UPS should be just like being at home in terms of policies for me...I stopped asking "why" years ago...should have learned my lesson 😉 All joking aside,,,thanks for the info as well!
