Omni - a person should be able to express his/her views without a threat of being blackballed. It's ok to say "I won't help" but to "actively work against that person" is wrong. Frankly, it's as un-American as it gets. Don't understand why you'd say that?

I typically stay out of charged discussions like this since most people claim that everyone is entitled to an opinion until it differs from theirs, but I will throw out a couple of observations. I don't believe that name calling should be lumped into the "political view" category. If you can't express your views (no matter what they are) beyond words that the teenagers down the street would use when posting on a public forum, perhaps I can legitimately not want to work in a confined space with you. That being said, most companies (including UPS) have a process for hiring people that the organization believes would be a fit for their culture. I don't think it is "un-American" to highlight an individuals actions to the team responsible for hiring and let them make the judgement that they have been tasked to do (although "actively working against" is over the top in my opinion, unless you are in that role at the company). If you change the words around to something less accepted in today's environment (sad I have to say that about name calling the President of the United States), I think we can all come up with a scenario where we would find this appropriate. Personal responsibility is, or at least used to be, one of the tenets of American society.

Bottom line, to bring this back to the topic of this thread - It is exciting that UPS is hiring so many great people with different and interesting opinions. I hope that they never have to lower their standards so that we all can enjoy going to work -- and perhaps we might hear a viewpoint we hadn't considered.

OCV Rocks!

Not nearly as many retirements as we had hoped, but pilots are taking time off via OCV in droves. Same difference as if more had retired.

Although I'm relatively senior, OCV has changed my life for the better. Two consecutive two week vacation blocks officially gave me 88-91 days off from my last three landings. I used to take both June and July off, but this year I'm off from mid June to mid September on the same four week vacation block.

Rumor right? This has not been announced anywhere as of yet.

Source? I'm an optimist and would love to believe this. But I am also a realist in that I'd like to see it in writing or be officially announced.

NOTHING is official until it's announced by UPS. All else is strictly rumor.

I read it above the urinal, near the 3rd floor sleep rooms. So it must be true.

They do have 8 747-8's coming through 2018 not manned for. Supposedly. I'm not conviced the hiring presently going on is not for the first 3 coming in a few months.

And with the 50-60 mandatory retirements next year, I see 200. Far from the 371 number.

Unless UPS plans on opening new gateways, I don't see the need. What's the manning per 747? 12? Left Seat.
