(FEB-MAR) Junior Schedules for NH planning
Here's what the bottom guys got for this current bid period. Remember, we bid for 2 pay periods of 4 weeks at a time. For you common core junkies that is 2 x (2x2) = 2x4 = 4+4 = 8 weeks. List below is in reverse seniority (starts with bottom guy).
ANC MD = 80 slots, junior is pre2014 hire.
Reserve A, 2 week on off (RSA2W)
Shiftable A 2 week
Shiftable B 2 week
Shiftable A
And so on for the next few guys.
ANC 74= 171. Junior is pre 2014 hire
RSA2W
VTO
RD2W
RA, 6 and 8 on/off
VTO
RD2W
VTO
Next bunch of guys got shiftable 2 week reserve
MIA 75/76 = 78, only 3 guys 2014 and on.
Bottom 6 all got turn lines (look like night turns ~> nasty...?)
8th guy got a week on off night sort line
9th back to night turn line
ONT 75/76= 96, 18 2014+ hires
Big number of the bottom guys all got BT's*
Some HOTs (airport standby) mixed in
VTO's start to trickle in for later 2015 hires
2014-early 2015 hires are getting what I call non Base trip base trips, or nBTBT - at first glance they look like good BT's.
* Base trip Lines are basically a mix of the leftover stuff, almost always domestic and typically shorter pairings, i.e. turns, 2 days and three days. The pairings aren't usually blocked together so they resemble pax schedules (constantly coming and going) versus our more typical block on block off. Upside is you have more ability to trade around than long block holders (ymmv). Some domiciles have a bunch of BT's that have big blocks included. If you live in domicile these really aren't bad IMO.
SDF MD11 = 185, 18 2014 + hires
10 bottom guys or so got RSA2W
Some BT's start to trickle in for early 2015 hires, VTO's as well
a rare AM turn with late 2014 hires
NBTBT start to show up with pre2014 hires.
SDF a300 = 190, 45 2014+ hires
VTO's go junior
2015 hires and above start to see some BT's
1 am turn trickled down - bad CPT???
SDF 76/76 = 190, 36 2014 + hires
VTO's to the bottom guys,
BTs start getting mixed in about 5 guys up
Turn lines start mixing in at guy number 10
HOTs 15 guys in
NBTBT start with 2014 hires
SDFz= SDF 75/76 intl, 261, 35 newer guys
Bottom 10 RSA2W
VTO start mixing in as do HOTs
Week on/off nite sort arrives at early 2015 hires
NBTBT at 2014 hires
------------------
Staffing numbers are what was listed on the bid award sheet so none of the new guys are showing up.
ANC MD = 80 slots, junior is pre2014 hire.

VTO is Vacation, Training, Other. After the main bids are awarded, VTO lines are created from VTO sources and people will then will then bid on these lines. If there isnt enough flying to create complete lines, the company puts on LCO days = long call-in days and the subject of the other thread. VTO's can be good for junior guys to get better schedules or a last ditch shot at getting days off you need. But you are bidding in the blind to a certain extent and if you get the last VTO award on the original bid you basically get whatever is leftover on the VTO bid.
Anyone who bids VTOs care to share what the flying typically looks like...?

RA RD are short call reserve. ABCD are different callout times of 12 hours starting at 00, 1200, 1600, 0400 respectively. See next post for more detail.

And for those inquiring, reserve is a call out window of 12 hours, but you have 'drive time' to get to work once the phone rings. MIA, ONT, and ANC have a 2 hour callout once the phone rings. SDF is 1+30.

I was going to do that but there is so much variance between fleets, domiciles, and different times of the year that no simple description is possible. If you want base trip lines I don't think you'd have a long wait on most fleets especially with all this movement. Overall, a popular saying at UPS is that, with few exceptions, the only difference between the lines of the junior and senior is that the senior guy/gal gets the days off he/she wants; there are no major differences in the pairings.
Other options:
A few VTO's often trickle down to the very junior and being able to hold those consistently shouldn't take long either. We also have RMUL or reserve move up lines: if you get one they build you a line or partial line out of open time and other leftover stuff (not exactly sure on details but you get the idea). Reserve itself also has some flexibility: there is the possibility of moving reserve days around and you get a 24/7 break of they don't use you. Catch is they have been abusing the extension provision in certain fleets and domiciles so guys are getting an extra day, sometimes two, of flying on the back end of a block (albeit they get late arrival pay which is no chump change).
