Thanks for reply, captainv. Just trying to understand the alternate travel better here. Im in the pool right now and I live close to JFK. Lets say I get the 74 ANC base, would it be better for company to send me to Europe since it is potentially cheaper then being sent to ANC? Will this be considered playing games?

There are VERY few things at Atlas that are set in stone, other than "Everyday is like the first day".

The phrase "Better for the company" never comes into play.

To understand and use that philosophy would require a level of situational awareness and proactive thinking that simply does not exist at Atlas.

Does it exist at any ACMI carrier though? I would have thought it existed at Atlas of all places though...

Where you live shouldn't change the monthly bid awards and ANC FOs won't likely be starting trips in Europe. If scheduling does change your schedule with this type of zip code scheduling, the union should put a stop to it (although they haven't in the past). It is an abrogation of seniority to not allow other crewmembers a shot at a trip like that too. Not that seniority means that much at Atlas anyway. It might be "better" for Atlas, but it must also be CBA compliant.

It's possible but I don't know my way around the system enough yet to know if it's likely. So here's how you might play to make it more likely: offer to work a few days starting in Europe on days off before your trip begins. If they need you bad enough in Europe they'll do whatever it takes to get you there. If scheduling offers something suitable you take it and leave home early. If not, stay home the extra day or four and fly to ANC as planned. If you don't want to lose days off you might risk bidding lines that begin with R2 reserve. These can go junior and you might talk scheduling into taking you off reserve in ANC to fly to Europe at the last minute. It all depends on how bad they need you and where. The more days off you're willing to trade the better your chances are of getting something that suits your commute.

Where your scheduled, published trips starts (or ends) sometimes has no bearing on where you actually go to start working, or where your trip ends.

For example: Had a trip starting near PHL, operating to Oslo. instead I was airlined to HSV and operated out of HSV. Another trip was airline to HSV to DH to Europe, to start operating in Europe. Instead I was airlined to FAR, to operate out of FAR.

Trip was scheduled to end in JFK. Instead it ended in MEL. Had others end in TPE, Kuwait, London, Riga, Paraguay, etc., etc.

So basically, you know the days your on company time. Everything else is a crap shoot. That about right?
