I couldn't say. I don't commute from MSP. Just relaying what I've heard from friends that do and what I've seen on the line.

Spirit is starting MSP-DTW this summer. So there will be an off-line option for your commute for the first time.

Anyone have any thoughts on commuting from MSP to either NYC, DTW, or ATL? Which is "easiest"? Any gotchas?

I commuted from DTW-MSP very briefly before the merger and have gone back and forth semi-regularly since then so take it for what it's worth. There are a ton of flights and a fair number of A320s on the route so there are a lot of jump seated. There are also a lot of jump seaters. Anecdotally, the flights during the day are very full and the flights in the evening are more open unless there are reroutes. There are a lot of connecting cities with quick turns so the occasional two leg commute is somewhat helpful.

NYC based pilots are responsible for covering LGA, JFK and EWR. While it may not always have them every month, the 88 could certainly have EWR trips.

Anybody have any suggestions for crashpads or hotels to stay during training? Might be able to crash for a night or two with friends but don't want to impose. Pm's appreciated.

if you are not familiar with commuting to NYC know this, in thunderstorm and snow season that place can shut down fast. during a short 2.5 month time on the ER in JFK I had two flights outright cancel because a commuter didn't make it in and there was nobody to cover the trip. I struggled to get a JS or on a flight from ATL-JFK in the afternoons so I always ended up coming in the mornings to LGA and taking the bus over to JFK and luckily never lost a commute due to TSRA season. Never had a snow season.

Maybe different nowadays, that was, gulp... 6 years ago. time is flying.

DTW, NYC, ATL. Easiest to hardest.
