Allegiant Air emergency landing at JIA | Firstcoastnews.com

Wonder if the other two will even make the news?

They're understaffed by at least 1 from the recent vacancy bid, they're holding off at upgrading 3 that will definitely get upgraded in the next bid and there's a few HNL FO's in Vegas now that have training slated for Feb. So they either park planes or hire into it.

Anyone who's been at G4 more than a week knows that the 757 SUCKS unless you live in Vegas and wanna sit reserve all the time. You'll make a lot more $$ on the -80 or the bus, have a more predictable schedule, and not have to deal with some of our most notorious captains. Most people come here for QOL, the 757 has not and will not ever give you a good QOL! They'll steal days off left and right and play games with your equipment lock when you wanna get off the thing. I can't recommend it.

Do you recommend the MD80 out of LAS for a new hire? Is there lots of opportunity for open time?

Yeah, Ollie is very well-liked in SFB! He lives right across A1A from Flagler Beach....which recently got hit really hard with Hurricane Matthew!! Large chunks of A1A are gone...not sure how well he fared.

The MD80 is a fun airplane to fly. There is plenty of FO flying available in Vegas. I talk to FO's that routinely credit over 100 hours each month.

As said above, I would stay away from the 757 unless you live in Vegas and don't mind being displaced sooner than later. Unless I'm mistaken, we're now a bump and flush displacement, so as a junior FO you could end up a long way from home.

Be forewarned on the -80 in LAS you're pretty much locked in to working Su Mo Thurs Fri - more if you're on reserve.

But hey, thats ok, they threw a bunch of money your way, and you got plenty of consecutive days off to make it work

Two things about the 757:

1)it's got more of a 7 day schedule, which means more blocks of reserve days together if you bid the fleet, do not plan on ever being a line holder. Still crappy schedule and low utilization and don't plan on going to HNL but once in a blue moon.

2)We do have bump and flush but haven't seen it play out yet. Additionally, you probably won't be forced out of LAS but plan on being displaced to the -80 followed by a displacement to the bus in short succession. In theory you could be doing 3 type ratings in an 18 month period. Too much jeopardy for my taste but to each his own.

Additionally, the company has 'adjusted' flight schedules so that you cannot back up a PM to an AM trip. This was easy a year ago but created too many conflicts with our delay issues so the company 'fixed the glitch'. Don't plan on commuting to Vegas unless you like pain and suffering.

Better bases for commuting exist, look for those with 7 day flying and high aircraft utilization. PIT, CVG, possibly LAX. Still it's a rough task at G4 and nobody does it for too long.
