We “can” start an engine 2 minutes early. Who cares? This industry pays by the minute. Apparently there are people out there worried more about when to start an engine or who talks on the radios during descent than a real quality of life improvement. At least the newest TA was sent back before it made it to the pilots.
Maybe it will come with bite sized snickers to be placed in crew rooms from 8:15-9:00 (until supplies last).

This just seems like a really odd thing to get either bent out of shape or excited about. It’s impact on day to day line flying is about as much as a 3 knot difference in winds aloft.

I care about starting the engine 2 minutes early. Why? Because it allows me to start counting “block” time for 117 purposes 2 minutes early (which is another issue...it should start at door-beacon-brake). It also means I can start moving two minutes early on the last leg, and sometimes those minutes matter when you have a commute to make. I’ve hade 2 minutes make the difference between getting home in time for dinner as opposed to the next morning.
Those are quality of life improvements.

The people that make the checklists are not the same people in a position to improve QOL. BF or CD or TK don’t care what color checklist we’re using.

Verbiage to allow for engine start on pushback at CA discretion. No need to transfer controls for approach brief. APR switch stays armed all day. A few other minor things I’m forgetting. Some limitations were unboxed and some were boxed.
