Lol that's not how buying an airline works at all. If SWA bought us, it isn' an ALPA to ALPA merger. Ask Airtran how staying ALPA worked out for them. AS would have zero leg to stand on in terms of fighting power. We would be Airtran 2.0 and have to eat whatever they serve us. If SWA could simply staple us, they would. Getting DOH would be most the best we could hope for.
A merger between Alaska and Southwest is not ever going to happen

The Southwest that bought Airtran is dead and gone. The myopic loyalty of the Southwest pilot group died with it. The creation of a JCBA comes first and then an arbitrated SLI comes second. The Airtran comparison is apples to donuts…

I always thought it was more like collective self-preservation for SWA pilots. Seniority is everything as you know, so they acted in their own self interest.
No reason why they would do any different in another merger.

If I recall, SW management implied they would liquidate Airtran over time if the "agreement" they offered to the Airtran ALPA was refused.

Lol that’s some wishful thinking Rick. I’d have to assume it would be very expensive. You really think SkyWest is going to just welcome new debt on 40 175’s onto their balance sheet? Those 175’s are financed by the contracts. Where are the 40 going? We’re scoped out at United, and I think Delta is scoped out as well, maybe American? Doubtful.
Not to mention there’s no way they’re experiencing staffing shortages in Alaska SkyWest base’s. I think SAN is the most senior base at the whole company. Would those senior folks retire or commute? I’d bet most retire.
I’m sure Alaska and SkyWest negotiated an earlier exit in the contract, but it won’t be cheap. Is it ever cheap to cut a professional player from their contract early? Is it cheap to get out of my lease on my apartment? No, and no.

Guadalupe Holdings? In order to skirt the McCaskill - Bond statute and avoid an arbitrated SLI.

Of course, they could just as well not insist on that, as a big, parting, "Yuck Fou" to the pilots.

We all would hope that, but if you’ve worked here more than a few hours, you know that would not even cross management’s mind.

I doubt SW would be able to get passed the DOJ to purchase a larger carrier. As of today, the combined market cap ( AS/SW) would be almost 30% higher than Deltas . Over a 1000 narrowbodies . And if SW would make a bid and potentially go forward with an acquisition , the other big 3 will not stand idle by and watch .
