Any other things I know Bob just said that they would have to order something else knowing the 737 production will end

Personally I think Alaska needs to merge with JetBlue to better compete with Delta. And there is zero chance Delta makes a move for Alaska. If they backed out of Virgin America they definitely wouldn't even try for AS.
And in typical fashion, AS has no idea how to adapt. We won't meet our growth plan as it is.

The irony is that AS doesn't consider a merger as a means to grow, while all the bigger airlines are considering AS a means to gain aircraft and pilots. Once again AS considers themselves the big fish, not realizing that they are swimming amongst whales.

I agree. The pilot shortage is going to be a real issue. I would think a merger would be the only option if your wanted to grow quickly but I don't get paid the big bucks to make those decisions. Even acquiring the aircraft from Boeing fast enough sounds like an issue.

Why would they be anything more than gates, planes and people to WN?

By just buying aircraft themselves with no pilots isn’t going to help

It helps if you are buying assets. If WN doesn’t plan on growing as big as AS is, you sell off what you don’t want.

There are two ways of getting pilots right now. 1 is making them from scratch. 2 is buying them. The smart airlines are going to solve these long term problems by buying companies and absorbing pilots.

AS is now the smallest major in the country aside from Sun Country. Where are we going to get pilots?

Does size really matter?

Management takes pride in AS being known as the little airline that could, consistently punching above its weight, and being rewarded by Wall Street in the process.

By combining the brand loyalty up in the PNW, with the "Alaska discount", as well as a sprinkling of various other special ingredients, the "secret sauce" should ensure their continued success, whales now circling in their pond be damned.
