100% agree.
I just hope all the tools from the training department who designed our disaster of CQ in 2023 go to the 787 and I can have a peace during CQ and positive learning environment for a few years. That's about the best outcome I'm hoping for. Maybe we can get past the dynamic of the FO being a punching bag for the instructor when the ride is for the CA, because that would be nice.
The only thing I'm hopeful for long term is that the industry will need to pick up the pieces of what's leftover after the mgmt team that can't handle 3" of snow in Seattle has a go at international ops. So my seniority number will still mean something during the last 25 years of my "career".
100% sure the international hotels, ground transporation, handlers etc will be a massive learning curve for our all star team. Stepping over dollars to pick up a shiny penny wont work anymore. No way will I be involved in that.

Flying between 2 Cities with malfunctions along the way bothers you?
The FO I was paired with kept asking me when things get “tough”, I kept saying any minute now, however that minute never came… so, again… what was tough about it? I’m seriously curious…

you peaked my curiosity… what was wrong with CQ ‘23?

The second 1/2 of day 3 could be considered valuable training if the goal was to intentionally overload crews, force them to rush through checklists and intimidate crews on the complexity of SE flying.
This is why my only hope for my current place of employment, if the merger with HA goes through is that the majority of the training deparment chases a new aircraft type.

The second 1/2 of day 3 was a disaster from a training perspective. If the training department valued things like learning and methodically handling events without rushing.

In real-life situations, there is no instructor and you will still work through any issues.
True, the training probably is a bit more intense but that’s a good thing since I want a Crew upfront that knows how to deal with pretty much the worst and not one that throws their hands up and says “too much for me”, what a pathetic attitude and skill-level as a Pilot to have!
Let me say this, the AS AQP program is a ‘Santa Claus’ program compared to a well set out ‘traditional’ one.
Suck it up Buttercup is what I say😉

First off, the Instructor NEVER rushes my Cockpit, time management from a training perspective is his problem not mine. We, CA and FO, make our own decisions NOT what the Instructor wants to see… if he/she has a problem with it, it will be addressed in the de-brief.

I got through CQ just like I aways do. Zero issues and very little learned but thanks. No one is saying "this is too much for me." Pilots that would like to get something other than a completely unrealistic series of events with zero learning value. You'd find yourself very far into the minority opinion of last years LOE and likely the training department in general. Macho is a hazardous attidude. Something that I'd hope a modern and functional training deparment would address. Perhaps after they address the short landing issues? You see how these things manifest themselves on the line? Embarassing. Like I said I hope the people responsible for this and you wind up on a different airframe.
But it sounded ridiculous.
I agree with your sentiments and I think many here do as well.

The fact he acts like he’s never heard of a gouge is hilarious too. No one I know didn’t have the gouge on this years CQ… maybe he has no friends? So wasn’t able to get a copy?… at any rate I have not heard anyone say last years CQ was a good learning experience or event. (Didn’t do it, was still transitioning)
But it sounded ridiculous.

CQ 2024 is reasonable, still not as easy as American's or United's, but it was doable without the gouge. I think the training department got the message.

“Minority Opinion”… well, I don’t jump off a bridge just because everyone else says that you must!
You can keep your ‘Tik Tok’ mentality with your buddies…🤣
