* The latest bid has increased the JFK base from 18 to 50 crews, so there are 32 openings for both CPs and FOs.
* Decrease LAX from 89 to 82 crews, which means if (7) CPs & FOs bid out, those openings will not be backfill.
* SFO will decrease from 180 to 168 crews – leaving 12 fewer crews.
* Since there are openings (vacancy) in JFK, if you were awarded to transfer to JFK from this bid (as an FO), and subsequently left a vacant opening in SFO it will not be considered backfill unless we had more than 12 FOs leave the base.
* This bid is strictly open for all existing pilots who would like to transfer bases, no upgrades will be awarded from this bid yet. At the end of this bid, we should have (11 or 12) CPs positions not awarded from any base. In the next round of bidding we will announce the upgrade of 12 Captains to fill the opening; it will leave us with 24 FOs openings, which we will be filled with new hires.
The math works as follows:
32 new openings for crews in JFK minus 7 from LAX minus 12 from SFO = 13 crews additionally needed, rounded down to 12 crews needed. That's 12 Captains and 12 FOs. They will upgrade 12 Captains. 12 FOs needed here + the 12 more FOs needed for those vacated FO seats (upgrade guys) = 24 more FOs needed.

The July 17 class has 6 pilots, which means every class this year has had 6. If they want 24 more pilots, 6 each means 4 more classes probably for the rest of the year, unless there is more attrition to demand an additional class or two.

Plus we hear different numbers every week for hiring. I was in recurrent a few weeks ago and at that time we were being told a class every two weeks for the rest of the year. Now some people's numbers say something else.
